Sylvan Lane Eagles, Mar. 20th

We did not see or hear any eagles in the vicinity of this nest.

However, it was brought to our attention that the eagles had built a new nest on the next street over.

As we approached the street where the eagles have built a new nest, we could see one of the eagles perched at the very top of the new nest tree.

As we got closer to the nest tree I zoomed in on the eagle perched at the top and saw a band on its leg. My birding friend who reports on these eagles regularly took a photo of the band on one of the eagles a few years ago. Unfortunately it was windy on the day we visited and I could not get a clear photo of the band. It was partially covered by either feathers or twigs.

York Place Eagles 20 Mar.

The nest that was on York Place fell a few years ago. Before that it was in the tree behind the Oak Bay Fire Hall. Now we believe the pair that built the new nest in the big tree overlooking Willows Beach are the same pair. We viewed the nest tree on York Pl. from the next street over to see if the eagles have been back there. There was no evidence of a new nest.

I visited the Victoria Golf Course nest with my birding partner on Mar. 20th. We walked up and down Beach Dr. hoping to see something in the nest.

After a long while we were delighted to see the top of a white head in the nest. The eagle in the nest flew out to the big perch tree across the road and mated with the other eagle perched at the top of the tree. I was standing on the wrong side of the road and missed getting photos of the mating

After the mating the other eagle flew to the nest and took over the incubating duties

I visited the new nest on Island Rd. with my birding partner on Mar. 20th. Unfortunately, there were no eagles seen or heard in the area. We found out later, after meeting one of the regular nest observers, that he witnessed a mating on the big perch tree on Anderson Hill

I visited the nest in Hollywood Park with my birding partner on Mar. 20th. We were happy to see that the nest was much larger than it was the previous time we visited the park. We wandered around the park for awhile before my partner spotted movement in the nest. One of the eagles appeared to be incubating

These next 2 photos were taken from down the road on the opposite side from the nest tree.

I visited the nest in Hollywood Park on Apr. 1st. I wandered around the park for awhile and took pictures but it is difficult to see an eagle lying down in the nest. I was happy to catch a glimpse of an eagle in the nest when it got up to change positions or roll eggs Below are photos of the eagle in the nest from different vantage points.

I visited the Hollywood Park eagle nest on April 18th and was happy to see an adult in the nest, looking like it was incubating This is a difficult nest to see but I managed to get a few decent photos from various vantage points.

This photo was taken from the ball field by the stands. The eagle's head & beak are visible through the sticks.

This photo was taken from the edge of the ball field near Fairfield Rd.

This photo was taken from the opposite side of Fairfield Rd. a few meters away from the nest tree. The eagle's tail feathers are visible on the left side of the nest.

I visited the Sylvan Lane eagles' new nest on Denison Rd. on April 18th. One of the adults was perched at the top of the nest tree. I took photos of the nest from various vantage points but did not capture any evidence of an adult in the nest incubating.

I visited the new nest on Island Rd. on April 18th. I did not see or hear any eagles in the area. I chatted with the property owner who said she saw and heard the eagles visiting the nest tree and eating on a regular basis. She has not seen any eagles in the nest the past week.

I visited the Golf Course eagle nest on April 18th. One of the adults was in the nest and appeared to be incubating. It got up once to roll eggs then went down in the nest. I did not see or hear the other adult in the area.
