June 5th Farhill Rd. nest cont'd.
I was taking a photo of the 2nd nest on Park Dr. and saw something white in the nest. With my binoculars it looked like part of a branch that the sun was shining on. When I zoomed in on my photo I was surprised to see an adult in the nest. The eagles have not used that nest for many years I didn't see or hear an eaglet but my birding partner saw an eaglet and an adult in the nest on June 7th

Re: Westshore, Metchosin and Sooke Bald Eagles - 2019-2023 Seasons
I viewed the nest at Witty's Lagoon from Tower Pt. on June 5th. It was getting late in the day and the sun was not in the right spot for getting good quality photos.
I heard an adult calling when I got out of my vehicle, then was pleased to see it perched in a tree in the field at Tower Pt.
These 2 photos of the nest tree are not the best quality but you can see an adult in the nest with an eaglet in the 1st photo.

Re: Westshore, Metchosin and Sooke Bald Eagles - 2019-2023 Seasons
I visited the nest site on Farhill Rd. in Metchosin with my sister on July 26th. We did not see or hear any adults or the eaglet, but after 20 minutes we heard the eaglet vocalizing from somewhere beyond the nest tree; however we did not have enough time to search for it.
This is the old nest tree on Park Rd. that the eagles chose to use this season.

Re: Westshore, Metchosin and Sooke Bald Eagles - 2019-2024 Seasons
This is the opening post for the 2023/2024 nesting season for the eagle nests in the Westshore, Metchosin and Sooke area.
My birding partner visited a few nests on Nov. 20th. The eagles at the Farhill Rd. site were back in their old nest together, moving nesting materials around.
The nest on Luxton Rd. fell down at the end of this past nesting season. It did not look like the eagles have attempted to rebuild a new nest.

Re: Westshore, Metchosin and Sooke Bald Eagles - 2019-2024 Seasons
I visited the Farhill Rd. nest with my birding partner on March 28th. The eagles are back in the nest they were in 2 years ago. One of the adults was in the nest; it appeared to be incubating. The 2nd eagle flew in and around the nest tree before dropping some nesting material in the nest. We aren't sure but we think they exchanged nesting duties. The one in the nest hopped out and perched on the branch to the left of the nest then flew off. We waited for about 15 minutes but it did not return.
This is the old nest they used in the previous year of nesting.
We were watching the nest for quite awhile before an eagle stood up.
The 2nd eagle perched above the nest after delivering nesting material.

I visited the nest at Royal Roads with my birding partner on March 28th. We saw both eagles flying in and around the nest and heard both of them vocalizing. This is a very difficult nest to see and although both of us saw an eagle in the nest, unfortunately I was not able to capture it in a photo.

Re: Westshore, Metchosin and Sooke Bald Eagles - 2019-2024 Seasons
I visited the Cottonwood Lane nest on the Royal Roads property with my birding partner on March 28th. We waited near the nest site for quite awhile before seeing some action. We heard vocalizing and realized it was coming from the nest. We saw an adult and a juvenile soaring overhead; the adult chased the juvenile away before it decided to land in the nest. The adult then perched in a nearby tree.
This is their usual perch tree near the nest tree.

Off it goes!
The other eagle decided to take its turn in the nest.
The one that was originally in the nest incubating flew around then landed in the perch tree.
