I was over on the lower mainland BC on Sept. 30th, visiting Boundary Bay in Delta and Reifel Bird Sanctuary. I have photographed this nest in Delta a few times in the past and on Sept. 30th there was an adult eagle perched in the nest tree. The dark areas on the eagles head are shadows.

There is a nest on the way to Reifel Bird Sanctuary, just before the bridge to Westham Island. There was 1 eagle perched in the nest tree on the way to Reifel and both eagles were perched in the nest tree when we came back. I wasn't able to stop for a photo of both eagles.

This is a new nest this season, near Mt. Douglas Park. I visited this nest for the first time on Feb. 26th.

I visited this nest again on June19th. One of the adults was sitting in the nest
looking like it was checking on an eaglet :luck:

This has indeed been a very strange season for eagle watching. I have not been able to get out to the nests I monitor on a regular basis and have sadly missed a lot of the action at the nests. I made one last trip on Aug. 3rd to see if the eagles were still in the area at the new nest near Mt. Doug Park. The eaglet was lying down when I arrived but soon got up, stretched and had a poop. It then started hopping and jumping across the nest and landed on a small branch at the side of the nest.

As I was walking away from the nest tree I heard some branches rustling and looked back to see the eaglet perched on a lower branch flapping its wings.

I wish them luck with their travels to the salmon spawning grounds and hope to see them back in their territory within the next 2 months.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I have not been able to get out to check the activities of the eagles. Therefore this thread will be continuing to include observations, photos & videos of the eagles for the 2020/2021 nesting season. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the eagles will produce offspring this season :luck:

I visited this nest in the Martindale Flats area in Central Saanich on Oct. 20th. I did not see or hear any eagles when I first arrived but one flew in as I was driving away and landed in a nearby tree. I pulled over to the side of the road and managed to get a photo. Unfortunately the sun was behind the tree so the photo is poor quality. I will be visiting this nest throughout the season and if there is enough activity I will create a dedicated thread for this nest.

This is a photo I took in Nov. 2018.

My birding partner saw 2 adults doing nestorations in the nest at Martindale Flats (above nest) on Oct. 15th and another nest monitor saw 1 eagle in the nest on about Oct. 8th :thumlft: The new nest the eagles built last year was in a tree that was cut down

This is one of the nests in Saanich that I visit with my birding partner. There were 2 eaglets in this nest this past season and one ended up on the ground. My birding partner was in touch with WildARC who advised her and the land owners to leave it, as the adults would feed it. It wasn't determined if the eaglet eventually flew off.

We visited yesterday and weren't sure at first if the eagles were in the nest as it was very foggy. We waited until it cleared a bit and were happy to see both eagles sitting in the nest. One flew out and disappeared over W. Saanich Rd. Five minutes later the 2nd one flew out and we thought it landed in a nearby tree but couldn't see it.

There are a pair of eagles busily building a new nest at Panama Flats in Saanich :woohoo: They have been building this nest for only a few weeks. I visited the area with a birding friend on Jan. 27th and we were very happy to catch the eagles flying in and out of their nest, across the flats to the other side, and back with nesting material.

A few more photos of the eagles at Panama Flats. One of them flew back from across the flats with a huge long stick and they both had their own preferences as to where the stick should be placed :D

Panama Flats Eagles, May 17th.

One of the eagles was perched at the top of their nest tree.

While both my birding partner and I were viewing the nest through our binoculars, we both
saw a wing flap but weren't able to capture it with our cameras.

I visited a nest site yesterday with my birding partner; one that we had visited a few times in the past, in the general vicinity of Viaduct Flats. There were 2 very big eaglets in the nest :thumlft:
Scarborough Rd. Eaglets 1 June 2021.JPG

The eaglets started vocalizing as a Turkey Vulture flew overhead, followed by one of the adult eagles. The adult then flew behind the trees and perched within a few meters of the nest.

This is the nest the eagles used in previous years; a few trees from the current nest tree.

I have previously reported on this nest here

I visited this nest area yesterday and was pleased to see 2 very healthy looking eaglets in the nest. However, I did not see either of the parents in the area.

I first reported on this nest in Feb. of 2020 here. I visited this nest on July 14th and saw 2 big healthy looking eaglets in the nest and one of the parents perched in a tree down by the water's edge. One of the eaglets was up on a branch above the nest.

My birding partner also visited the nest area on July 14th and saw both eaglets in the nest.
