I visited the park on Jan. 29th and I did not see or hear the eagles anywhere in the park or in the surrounding neighbourhood :( Their nest still looked neglected although I can see a couple of sticks that look new :luck:

A good sign that the eagles have been perching in one of their usual perch trees, a few trees from the nest tree, is the amount of whitewash on the foliage on both sides of the path :thumlft:

I went to the park yesterday but did not see or hear the eagles. When I left the park I spotted one perched
in the usual tree down the road. It was such a gorgeous day with nice bright sunshine behind the eagle.

I visited the park on Apr. 8th but did not see or hear the eagles anywhere in the park or down the road :(
There was no whitewash on the path below the nest or the perch trees.

I visited the park on Apr. 18th and while walking on the opposite side to where the nest tree is, I heard a raven squawking then heard an eagle squawking. When I arrived at the nest site I saw an eagle perched in the nest tree above the nest. I still did not see anything moving in the nest. Hoping an eagle was in there incubating :luck:

I visited the park on Apr. 27th but did not see or hear any eagles in the area or down the road on Plaskett Pl. I took photos of the nest from various vantage points.

I visited the park on May 11th but did not see or hear any eagles in the area or down the road. I drove down the dead end street to get a better look at the nest and although I didn't see anything moving in the nest there was a white area to the left of the main branch. The sun was in a bad position for capturing good photos from that vantage point.

These next 2 photos were taken from different vantage points in the park.

I visited the park again on May 14th but did not see or hear any eagles in the park or down the road where they perch. There is no whitewash on the path or the bushes around the nest tree :( Sadly, I am thinking they are not nesting this season.

A few people I know who visit the park have posted photos (on Facebook) of one of the eagles perched in the trees at the end of the parking lot but not the pair together :chin: This would indicate to me that one is in the nest but I won't be surprised if one day an eaglet pops up :D This has happened in the past.

2021 Cam Maintenance
Matching Drive

A little over 17 weeks ago, we met Tiku from our Surrey Reserve nest; this is just before he or maybe she made it all the way out of the shell:
Image

And now Tiku and Tucca from Surrey Reserve and Hope and Chase from Delta 2 have all set out to explore the world.

We do still have one young eagle to watch - this is Romeo from our White Rock nest, who hatched 6 weeks later than Tiku:
Image

At 11 weeks, he (or maybe she) is practicing perching on the nest supports and exercising those big wings. Eaglets generally fledge (take their first flight) between 10 and 14 weeks, and it's my guess that will happen in the next week or so.

And you know - I haven't really thought about this before - but our little window to access the nests and clean the cams and do any other necessary work isn't always that much longer than the 35-40 days it takes an egg to hatch. Last year the Surrey Reserve adults didn't leave until August 14 (though they weren't visiting very often after Thor left in mid-July) - and Dad Sur was back on September 26. Different pairs have different schedules - and it can vary from year to year - so it would be great if we could get ready now.

With that in mind....
Image

We will be posting more details about our Adopt-a-Nest program, the new option to adopt one of our eagles with a tracker (details soon), the Monthly Donor program - and the work we need to do on the 10 cameras we now have at five different nests.

The important thing to know is that at least the first $1000 in donations toward our cam maintenance fund drive will be matched by long-time supporters of Hancock Wildlife - so the time to donate is now!

Sadly the eagles did not produce any young this season :( We wish them safe travels to the salmon spawning grounds in Alaska and hope to see them in the fall when they return to their nest area looking healthy and well fed :rh:

I have locked this thread and will re-open a new thread when the eagles return to their nest territory. Hoping to see them return looking healthy and well fed and produce a family in the spring :luck:

THIS POST IS THE OPENING POST FOR THE 2021-2022 NESTING SEASON

Good News!! The eagles have been seen back in their territory :woohoo: I have unlocked this thread and welcome your observations and photos if you visit their nest area.

I visited the park on Oct. 2nd but did not see or hear any eagles in the vicinity or down the road on their perch trees. The nest looks intact with perhaps a couple of new sticks added :thumlft: I took a couple of photos; 1st one from the inside path, 2nd one from the rocks above the beach.
