My first sighting this fall was of an adult perched in Davis Bay just at the bottom of Bay Rd. Next sighting was in a tree where the houses start out of Davis Bay, at the house with the fence. That's quite a frequent perch tree before nesting season. Then last week I saw an adult perched a little farther up the hill, closer to the nest. Each sighting since the first has been closer to the nest. :D

Today on my way into Sechelt I was thrilled to see 2 eagles perched at the very tip top of the big evergreen outside Gourmet Girls. On the way home a couple of hours later, 1 was there. I can't say they were the Chapman couple but could have been!

Driving through Davis Bay yesterday toward Sechelt I could see 2 bald eagles perched at the very top of an evergreen at the top of the hill, water side before coming to Heather Rd on the right. Almost at the nest site this time. :thumlft: First sighting I've ever had that close to their nest site. :w00t:

Ongoing sightings of adults in different trees on trips through Davis Bay and going up the hill towards the Chapman nest. I also spied a territorial fight going on driving through Selma Park on Feb 3. More eagles this year?

I had not heard back from my contact as to whether there were any eaglets this year but there had been activity. Possibly there was an eaglet/s but not confirmed.

This will be the start of the 2021-2022 SEASON.
I saw an eagle flying down over my house to the Chapman nest on a few occasions so either one or both are back. :)

My feeling is that they are back Marg. I've seen lots of single perching in Davis Bay. Some of them could be passing through but the pair I've seen in the tall evergreen closest to the bottom of Bay Rd I suspect are from the Chapman nest. :thumlft:

Welcome to the 2022-2023 Season!

The Chapman nest is located on Highway 101.

Welcome to this thread. Please stop by and say "Hi" if you visit the Chapman nest you are welcome to post comments and pictures here.

We see these eagles fly over our house and head down to the nest which isn't far from the water. We have walked along the rocky beach to view this nest but we also saw it from the Highway which is much easier!

2011, 2012 and 2013 unable to confirm if there were any eaglets
2014 - 2 eaglets fledged
2015 - 2 eaglets fledged
2016 - we believe one eaglet was at this nest this season
2017 - one eaglet believed to have fledged
2018 - possibly one eaglet
2019 - ?

Information on the Chapman nest from a friend.

"I have noticed what appears to be a fledgeling eagle from the nest near 4923 Sunshine Coast Highway. I have been trying to get photos of it and in a couple images saw a blue band on one leg and perhaps a silver band on the other. The youngster is behaving like this season's baby, begging for food. At the same time one of the adults was carrying food (a fish, I believe) and seemingly leaving it for the baby. I am wondering if new babies would have been banded, or if this is in fact a youngster from another year...? The behaviour is definitely like a bird that hasn't developed the ability to feed itself yet, with constant vocalization aimed at the adult bird.

Cheers!
Ian". Pictures may be coming.

I notified David Hancock and he said that they have been banding eagles up here recently.
