Porpoise Bay nest, Inlet Rd. Sechelt BC, Sunshine Coast BC 2018-2022
This nest was spied by our friend Angela summer of 2018 as we were driving underneath it while checking on juvies in our known nests. The number of times we have driven beneath it without knowing is incredible! It sits in a pine tree at the corner of East Porpoise Bay Rd and Delta, sharing the corner with the Blue Heron sign.
Through the years we have thought there must be a nest near there, often seeing couples perched in the area. Many years ago I had been told there was a nest "near The Blue Heron" but never found out where, near the Blue Heron until now!
Speaking with neighbours who live on Bandland there revealed that this has been an active nest for years. By the time we discovered it the eagles were not around.
I did see 2 in trees near where the nest tree is from across the top of Porpoise Bay, by the motel, in January 2019.
10/13/19 We can't determine if this nest was successful last season as none of us saw any sign of eagle activity while checking. I am going to leave this thread open to add to if we see activity this coming season.
2019-2020 The nest seemed active but it is difficult to monitor. Whether any eaglets fledged is unknown. The end of June Heather spotted 2 eaglets at the nest.

I was back checking on the nest and activity March 5. One lovely big eagle was perched in a tree near the nest tree. No activity seen.

Thanks for setting up this new thread Sandra. Its very exciting to have a new nest on the Coast.
I have often seen eagles around this area from the end of Govt wharf in Sechelt and its great to now know where their nest is! I wish them both a successful season. At least they should have a quieter time this year now that most of the development around there is done

Nice to see you checked in here Heather. I am sad to say that I have yet to see activity at this nest. I've tried from various angles but have not seen any sign of life. I know how they can surprise us though!

I haven't seen them ether Sandra.
I often used to see them from the Porpoise Bay pier when they were perched across the bay but haven't seen them for a while. Perhaps there's just been too much development around there - fingers crossed for next season when hopefully it will be a bit quieter

I've continued checking as well, last time June 4. That townhouse development has been ongoing for years but perhaps the last part of it has come too close to the nest tree? Hard to say.

I was at the top of Porpoise Bay June 18, by the motel picnic table and decided to take a picture across the water of our nest tree area. Even though I haven't found an eagle when over there look who I found!

I was driving past the nest today and saw an adult perched in the straggly looking tree next to the nest tree. I didn't have time for a proper look but seems that at least one of the adults is back!

Thank you Heather! Encouraging information.

I still have not seen an eagle in nor near this nest this season. On April 7 I parked up by OK Tire to see if I could see a white head in the nest or in another tree but no, nothing. That doesn't mean there isn't brooding going on however!
Re: East Porpoise Bay Rd, Sechelt BC Eagles' Nest, by the Blue Heron sign, Sunshine Coast BC 2018-2020
On May 10 I was across the water from this nest site and thought I was seeing a white head. I took a few shots from the picnic table area on Wharf St. Found an eagle perched looking out over Porpoise Bay and someone looking to be in feeding position on a platform when I shot what I thought could be the nest tree.
