SURPRISE!!!!!!!
P1090142.jpg
This picture is not from a few years ago. It was taken few days ago. Yes, our eagles built a new nest on the old nest tree, just where the old nest used to be.
Here is, how it started. First I noticed one of them bringing a small piece of a dry wood to the nest on December 24. Here is the moment.
P1080990a.jpg
Building of the nest went on slowly, first. It was picking up as it started to look like a nest. Here are few pictures from the building activities.

Here they are are with their new home.

It is a happy end for now.
I, again, can see them from my living room and will be able to post photos regularly again.

Thank you for the pictures Les.
We drove over the one way bridge/dam a few days ago and saw that there now is a nest! What a wonderful surprize. :)

Fund Drive for Hard Drives

Good afternoon, everyone! I have just learned that we do not have the hard drives we need to record our cams as we approach little chick time - and we do not have the funds necessary to buy them.

These are the high resolution drives that are connected directly to the cams at the site, making it possible to record high quality videos of events at the nests - and we usually have them up and running before the eggs are laid. As you know, we already have eggs at three of our four nests, and they are likely any day now at the fourth nest - so time is of the essence.

Our tech person Ken is estimating that it will cost about $7000 to buy the high quality, high capacity drives needed for our 9 cams, and while we are keeping up with our regular monthly expenses, we don't have the extra money needed to buy and install the hard drives.

I know this is a hard time financially for many of us, with many businesses closed - but it may also be a time when some of us are staying home and watching the eagles after cancelling planned trips or dinners out - and I'd like to ask those who can to contribute towards these hard drives.

The nest was too small. Its building had to go on. First with long branches and sticks and later with small twigs to fill it in.

The nest started to look almost done. Here is a view from the north. It looks good. It has a nice access from the east. I see it from the west from my place.

This year started well. First time I saw our couple mating on March 5, and few more times in later days. They were here every day. Then, a month later they just disappeared for a week. After that,I could see them again late in the days. Now they are here most of the time. It all may mean that we are not going to have eaglets this year, unless we will get a late surprise.
Here are few recent pictures:

I hope and wish to have good news next time.

Thanks for the update, Les - and the nest has certainly grown! It is getting late for eggs, and sometimes a year off is a good thing - and hopefully we'll see chicks next year.

SURPRISE AGAIN !!!
We have one eaglet!

On May 12 I first time noticed one parent deep in the nest with the head bent down. Was it feeding? But we had no babies! It was hard to see inside the nest. It is deep with high edges. In next few days finally I could see between the nest edge branches a small head. I knew it - and was very happy. It is in the new nest, built just this year.

Here are proud parents:

It was interesting to see parents bringing in fresh tree branches from different kind of trees, carefully putting them down into the nest.

When another eagle appeared near by, both parents raised alarm.

What a nice story this year.

Aww, I am so excited for you Les. It is wonderful to see the new nest and bonus to see an eaglet on it. It still needs a lot of work but what a wonderful exciting start. Thank you for sharing!

Here is a quick update. Our young eagle took a first flight from his nest on July 14. He became a good hunter. I saw him twice, bringing his prey to the nest. They all took off for the annual fishing trip on August 4.

Here are few pictures from the nest:

Here from the wing muscle workout:

Parents were busy supplying the food:
P1110237a.jpg
We had a visitor to our golf course, likely from White Rock:
P1110257.jpg
It has been very exciting season, starting with a new nest on the old tree. There is one thing I noticed, our eaglet is darker than previous ones, at least as I remember and also comparing it to the visiting eaglet, which were more brownish.
I know, I am late with my update, but finally, I did it.

First one of our eagles arrived back at home on the 24th of September and the second one on October 1st. They spend limited time at home, most of the days they are away. There is nothing to look forward to this year about them any more, have to wait for the next season. Hope, it will be as good as this season was.

2020-2021 Season begins here

My ending in the last year entry was a hope for a good following year. I can tell now that it is good.

Here it is how it went:
In March I noticed both eagles were around the nest most of the time. Then on April 1st one of the eagle was leaning to inside of the nest. Since then it went on every day. I knew, there is at least one eaglet there. Here you can see only a tail of one parent eagle leaning to inside.
P1130565.jpg
P1130571.jpg
P1130641.jpg
Finally, on May 13 I could see heads of two eaglets. One looked smaller, likely it hatched later.
P1130711a.jpg
P1130720a.jpg
P1130721a.jpg
Then I got concerned, I could see only one eaglet, the bigger one, for three weeks. Finally, on May 30 I saw both eaglets. One still was smaller, but they both were there. It was a relief.
P1130926a.JPG
And here are the latest pictures from yesterday.
P1130979a.JPG
P1130982a.JPG
It is the first time that we had two eaglets of different sizes. Now I hope that both eaglets will survive.

Les, this is such wonderful news. There sure is a difference in size. The little one should be fine as long as there is lots of food for both. Fingers crossed!

I was delaying my update till I see both eaglets again. Pictures I posted last time, were the last pictures of the two eaglets. Over three weeks ago. Since then I have seen only one at any time. Yes, the bigger one. I do not know what happened with the smaller one.
The bigger one is doing well. Growing, eating, napping ...

...and working out on his wing muscles.
P1130990.jpg
P1140054.JPG
It is a beautiful eaglet.
P1140125a.JPG
Soon he will take off for the first time. It makes me feel good.
