Vancouver park board approved the install of a permanent eagle nesting pole in Vanier after the 2019 eaglets fledge.
The plan includes an expansion of the bike park for kids and rehabilitation of the forest to remove invasives and plant native species.

I hurt my shoulder (not at vanier though) so I've been going down there less, but there's some serious wing-exercises going on from the eaglets now! (It depends on the time of day that you go down there...)

Hi Marg

I think it’s because he is in the forefront of the picture, they are not that different in size .
There have been a lot of babies falling out of nests lately. The parks board put up phone numbers for Owl but unfortunately all but one got ripped down.

Hi Diana thanks for the comment about the size of the eaglets and it is sad that people rip down useful signs! :(

I saw one eaglet doing some pretty serious jump-flaps, and jumping back and forth across the nest--looks like a wild time being had up there! It looks like the parents are casually monitoring the situation...

One eaglet is legitimately flying from the nest out to branches and back, like 20 feet in one go. Spending quite a bit of time out there on the branches. Pretty cool to see! (I didn't see last year's eaglets do very much of that at all--our theory is these young-ones are leaner than last year's--we've seen less parental feedings.)

The other eaglet is still sitting on the edge of the nest and flapping, but nothing too vigorous.

Tim

You didn't see the Eaglets flying or branching last year because they fell and had to be rescued before they were branching.

The first one went for a legit flight, out towards the coast guard station and circled back to the nest. Must have been quite the trip.

First eaglet chilling out in the Coast Guard nest tree with the parents. The second eaglet is getting a lot more active as well, flapping more vigorously and jumping around and venturing out onto branches.

Both juvenile eagles successfully flew from the nest tree over to the old nest Coast Guard tree yesterday! :woohoo:
Good job Ma and Pa !!

One parent was keeping an eye on the situation in the same Coast Guard nest tree. :rh:

It's just an iphone photo so i marked it up:

Hi Tim

I have it documented in our files that both babies flew to coastguard tree on July 22nd. They are both in the tree with mom right now . It doesn’t look as though they will be gone by the fireworks as the babies have done in previous years.
