Unfortunately I was unable to visit the nest territories one last time this season but was informed by a birding friend that the 2 eaglets at the Lansdowne and Sylvan Lane nests and the eaglet at the York Pl. nest did fledge successfully :woohoo: I am hoping they all enjoyed a banquet of spawned out salmon in the rivers in Alaska :rh:

Good News :woohoo:

The Golf Course eagles have returned to their nest territory looking healthy and well fed. Hoping to see some eaglets next spring :luck:

I have unlocked this thread to include the 2021-2022 nesting season. Please feel free to post observation and photos if you see the eagles in their territory :thumlft:

This is the opening post for the 2021-2022 nesting season.

I was in Oak Bay late yesterday afternoon and was thrilled to see both adult eagles perched above their lower nest at the Golf Course :rh:

Mom was busy preening and after I had taken a few photos and got into my vehicle to leave Dad jumped down into the nest.

I visited the Lansdowne/Beach Dr. nest site on Oct. 12th and was pleased to see one of the adult eagles perched in the nest tree. I viewed it from the side street behind the nest and didn't realize the eagle was partially visible on the right side of the tree.

I visited the eagle nest on York Pl. on Oct. 12th. I did not see or hear any eagles in the area but took a photo of the nest.

I also took a photo of the old nest tree behind the Fire Hall. The nest started falling down a couple of years ago. Very sad to see!

Due to the fact that I have had hip replacement surgery 2 weeks ago, I will not be able to visit the nests for awhile. My birding partner and other nest monitor Marie will forward their observations to me to post here when they visit the nests.

Observations over the past couple of weeks:

Marie has seen the pairs back in their territories at the Lansdowne/Beach Dr. and York Pl. nests
Marie has seen an adult from the Sylvan Lane nest perched on Trial Island

I have had an update from my friend Marie; she saw 2 eagles perched side by side on their post on Trial Island about a week ago. They are the pair from the Sylvan Lane nest.

2 evenings ago Marie saw the pair from the York Pl. nest hunting a gull at the park near the Oak Bay Marina. They succeeded in catching the gull and one of the eagles landed on the rocks where the Yellowlegs usually rest.

I was finally able to get out to visit a few nests in Oak Bay yesterday. The main nest at the Victoria Golf Course that the eagles have used the past few years looks like there have been a few new sticks added. Sadly, we did not see or hear any eagles in the area. Photos of all 3 nests. First photo is the nest they have used most.

This is the nest the Fire Hall eagles have been using for many years. The nest in the tree behind the fire hall fell down.

This photo was taken from Prospect Place. We didn't see or hear any eagles but it seems to me there could have been one lying down in the nest. There is a humongous house being built on the property between Prospect Pl. and York Pl. Thankfully it is not obstructing our view of the nest.

This photo was taken from York Place. I'm not sure if I'm seeing white feathers amongst the sticks :luck:

The eagles at the nest in Uplands were actively nestorating yesterday morning when my birding partner and I arrived. An eagle flew off the nest on 3 different occasions and came back with a stick each time. We noticed a lot of new sticks and greenery in the nest :thumlft:

Last 2 photos from yesterday. The eagle on the left side of the nest stayed in the nest while the 2nd one brought sticks back.

I did a tour of the Oak Bay nests on Wed. Mar. 30th with my birding partner. As we approached the Lansdowne/Beach Dr. nest we heard an adult calling. As I arrived at a good vantage point the adult turned around on the branch then flew off towards Cattle Point. We saw an adult soaring over the area awhile later but did not see the adult or anything in the nest. However, we can view the nest from Humber Rd. and saw a white head in the nest.

York Place Nest 30 Mar.

Viewed the nest from Prospect Place as well as York Place. Thankfully the huge monstrosity of a house being build is not going to obstruct the view from Prospect Place. :thumlft:

These first 2 photos were taken from Prospect Place.
