Hi roof dek - What a wonderful photo! Thanks for posting it!

I hope you don't mind, your photo wasn't showing up so I "unzipped" it and re-uploaded it! It also needed to be resized as the forum software rejects photos that are too large!

There is lots of information in our Helpful Hints thread.

You will find specific information on attaching a scap/photo HERE and to resize a photo for posting on the forum HERE

Generally speaking I find limiting my Hi Re photos to 2000 pxls in width keeps the size of the file under 1 MGb and fills the screen when clicked.

Hello Everyone,
It's been a while since I have posted on any of the forums. I couldn't resist, when I heard these Eagles have returned to their old tree, catching up. We've been by this nest a few times this past couple of weeks, and were pretty sure that Ma was feeding some little ones. On Monday our suspicions were confirmed when a little one peered out of the nest. He or she sat up nice and straight to see what was going on outside his nest. I thought I could see another little one moving within the nest, but I couldn't be sure at this point.

Hello Again,
We returned to the nest this evening and after a few minutes, Baby 1 appeared. We moved to another part of the parking lot, to get a different view of the nest, when Baby 2 finally appeared! In the first photo, he is just to his siblings right. His fluffy little head had just popped up slightly! In the second photo he is hiding behind the branches and leaves on the left. So excited to be able to follow this nest again. I wish this pair all the luck in the world for a successful fledge this season.
Cheers!

Welcome back Heather! Thank you for the great pics of the little ones! We are all keeping our fingers crossed for a successful fledge this year without the unwanted excitement of a falling nest. Hope to see more of you.

Hello Everyone!
Glad to be back Gemini. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a successful drama free fledge for this family this season.
We visited the nest last night, and I no sooner got set up, when Roof dek came over to us, and invited us up his place where we get an awesome view of the nest! We got an awesome view of the nest, and the 2 youngsters and Ma watching over them. My how big they are. One of the little ones is already flapping his/her wings! Nothing is going to stop this youngster from going when the time comes.
Thank you Roof dek for inviting us to your home, and sharing the wonderful view of this eagle family with us.
Cheers!

Hi Everyone,
We made a quick stop by the nest last night and Ma was sitting up and looking around. I noticed what looked like something with fur along the edge of the nest in front of Ma. Must be dinner.

Both babies were peeking out of the nest at different times, then they decided to have a bit of a tiff.

LOL Sibling rivalry has begun. With loss of light, we headed home.
Cheers

Hello Everyone,
Hi Stim. Thank you so much for your compiments!
We made a real quick stop by the nest last night, and holy moly, what a difference a week makes!! Baby 1 was sitting up near the edge of the nest and how big he or she is!
DSC_6051 - Copy.JPG
DSC_6055 - Copy.JPG
His dark feathers are coming in nicely!
The little fluff down on the left side is baby 2 who is also getting so big!
I made a second post to add 2 more pics.

Baby 2 pops up, but seemed more interested in what was going on towards Hastings, than looking our way.
DSC_6061 - Copy.JPG
When baby 2 tuck himself back down into the nest, baby's head just barely popped up in the same area on the left side of the nest. His/her little head with the darker feathers.

Again, I can't get over what a difference a week makes! WOW!
Cheers everybody.

Hello Everybody,
It's been a little more than a week since our last visit to this nest, and what a difference! I just got my camera set up, when Pa arrived with some food!
DSC_6185.JPG
Ma immediately started to feed her not so little ones. And both babies were only to happy to eat!
DSC_6224.JPG
She no sooner started to feed when Pa arrived a second time with more food! This time I think it was some kind of fish!
DSC_6286.JPG
Please see second post!

Ma moved said fish to another part of the nest and started feeding it to the youngsters.
DSC_6289.JPG
She no sooner started to feed the youngsters when Pa arrived again, with more food!
DSC_6323.JPG
Three times in the short half hour we were there. No wonder these babies are so big, and only to happy to eat!
DSC_6375.JPG
At some points during our visit, it looked as if the bigger of the two babies was trying to feed him/herself!
Can't wait to see the changes this next week will bring!

Hello Everyone,
We made a quick trip to this nest last night. At first Ma was sitting on the limb right beside the nest having a bit of a nap. Wasn't long before she was joined by baby 1.

This not so little one did this several times while we were visiting! Even getting a little bit of air time. He/she actually contemplated climbing onto the limb where Ma was sitting, but was a little too wobbly for that. OH THE EXCITEMENT!!
Baby 2 stuck his/her head up at some point as if to say, 'DO YOU MIND?!!'. LOL I think baby 1 was using his/her sibling as a launch pad. I think there is quite a difference size between these 2 youngsters because the other eaglet has no where near the amount of dark feathers as the older one.
Can't wait to see what happens next time we visit!
Cheers

Hi Gemini,
I'm glad your enjoying my photos. I have to admit, I was holding my breath watching this youngster hopping around the nest while flapping his/her wings. I have OWL's number in my camera bag in case, LOL. I hope it doesn't come to that, but after watching this last night, I think one of these youngsters is a bit of a dare devil LOL.
We'll be visiting the nest again on Friday. I can't wait! I'm am keeping my talons crossed for this family, but things seem great so far.
Hugs to you.

Hello everyone,
We stopped by for a visit on Friday evening, and we no sooner got set up when we were joined by some other guests! Stan, Annemie and Sharon, it was terrific to see you all! I think we did more time catching up with each other than we did observing the Eagle family!
There wasn't really a lot of action happening. It could have been the fact that it was quite warm, or the fact that the parking lot was filling up with cars because there was a concert at the coliseum.
When we first arrived, Ma was sitting in her usual place on the nest and baby 1 was peeking out of the opposite side. Baby 2 was moving around just in front of Ma. He/she very quickly peeked out of the nest and then hunkered back down, as if to hide from all the goings on.
Baby 1 didn't take too long to join Ma, and cuddle with her for a brief moment before moving to the edge of the nest to look out at all the cars and people in the parking lot.
I tried to load some pictures but keep getting an error message. I will try again later.
Stan, Annemie and Sharon, it was awesome to see you all again. We should do it again some time real soon.
Hugs and Cheers

Hello Everyone,
I am finally able to load the photos that I took on my last visit to the nest, so this post and the next post will be 6 photos from June 2.
Ma in her usual spot, and one of the babies in front of her, and the other one peeking out of the
nest.

The baby in the opposite side of the nest moved over to be closer to Ma, while the other baby hid within the nest.

One of the babies sat right up near the edge of the nest while the other one stayed down nice and low in the very left side.

The baby near the edge of the nest seemed very interested in what was going on with all the cars!
DSC_6606.JPG
He/she took one last look our way before retreating back down into the nest.

What a cheeky looking bird LOL. This one is most definitely a dare devil. I can't wait to visit this nest again real soon.
Cheers

Hello Everyone.

Hi Gemini,
These little ones aren't so little any more! WOW

It's been a little more than 2 weeks since we visited this nest, and these babies are huge. Even the one that was mostly grey is now totally covered with dark brown feathers! When we first arrived, both youngsters were just laying around. Taking a look around every once in a while, but never sitting up.
DSC_6777.JPG
I was beginning to think I struck out on seeing any activity, and with the parking lot filling up, as there was a concert over at the PNE, I contemplated on leaving. When finally, after quite a while, Ma arrived on the scene with what appeared to be either a Goose or a Cormorant. I could see one of the webbed feet just below Ma's left wing.
DSC_6833.JPG
As she landed in the nest, both youngsters hopped up. One of them actually jumped up on the part of the limb that Ma usually sits on when she's watching over the nest.

She fed both youngsters equally. At times they were taking the food from her beak before she could decide which one she would hand the next morsel to!
DSC_7044.JPG
DSC_7091.JPG
While she was feeding the youngster on her left, the youngster on her right moved to the edge of the nest and waited patiently for the next bite.
DSC_7115.JPG
I would have loved to stay a little longer, but the parking lot was filling up fast with concert goers. I can't wait to see these guys again. I hope I will be able to capture some wingersizes next time!
Cheers

Hi Everyone!
Wow! Some pretty exciting stuff happening at the nest last night! I will be making a few posts! Sorry. When we first arrived, one of the babies was sitting on the limb that Ma usually sits on.
DSC_7145.JPG
It wasn't long before he was joined by his sibling.
DSC_7154.JPG
. What a nice looking pair of eaglets they are!
Then some super exciting stuff happened! The youngster joined his, or her, sibling decided to show off!

Some serious wingersizing!
DSC_7172.JPG
While the sibling looked on from his perch, Baby 2 did some serious wing flapping, and hopped between the limb next to her sibling and the nest.
DSC_7182.JPG
DSC_7258.JPG
As she landed on the limb, she would skid back down to the nest. She hasn't quite figured out how to grip yet, but it won't be long.

Baby 1 entered the nest and noticed that his sibling was preening.
DSC_7294.JPG
He decided it was his turn to show off!
DSC_7309.JPG
DSC_7318.JPG
I thought for a moment that he was going to come right out of the nest in my direction!
I had some people come up and ask me what I was watching so I put my camera on live view. The gasps were almost deafening as they watched this youngster get some serious air time in the nest. One of the ladies asked me what happens if they fall. I told them to call OWL, but to not approach the bird. I have a card for OWL in my camera bag, so I gave them the number. They were just as excited to watch these youngsters practicing their wingersizes/nest hops as I was.

Final post...for now.
This show off was not only hopping around, but he was changing direction in mid hop!
DSC_7326.JPG
DSC_7328.JPG
DSC_7329.JPG
A man and his daughter were passing through the parking lot and stopped to chat. I scrolled back through the pictures on my camera to show them the other baby doing her wingersizes. The little girl noticed the blue in the cuticle of the wings. I explained to her that that was blood, and that when the baby flapped her wings, it was helping the blood go away and the baby's wings would get lighter and then she would be able to fly away. Then my husband, who was sitting in our truck, putting the finishing touches on some eagle dream catchers, brought one over for the little girl to have. She was so happy to have it. Her dad told her that he would hang it in her room for her. They thanked us and carried on for home. By this time, both babies were back in the nest, eating, and settling down. I think I'll be making a few trips out to this nest this coming week. I would love to see these youngsters take their first flights! OH THE EXCITEMENT!!!
Cheers!

What a wonderful visit you had! This is very exciting after the history of this nest the past few years.
And how kind of Hubbie to share one of his dream catchers with the young girl. :rh:
