I really hope people respect these eagles and give them plenty of space and as much quiet as possible.Diana wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 1:11 pmThey have been adding sticks to both nests as they will be using both nests as a lot of Eagles do , especially when there is a lot of activity. They will be nesting soon so time to stay as far away as possible . This is a new female and we don’t know how much she will tolerate .

I hope so too, people don't realize how sensitive a time this is ..even a camera lens pointing at them for any length of time is disturbing during incubation.
Re: Vanier Park Eagles - 2018 & 2019 Seasons
I love that an artificial nest has been put up, we don't get a lot of eagles nesting in Southern Ontario but we have a lot of osprey and they are thriving because of the man made nests. Every little bit helps these creatures whose lives we've infringed on.
Re: Vanier Park Eagles - 2018 & 2019 Seasons
Lots of mating on the coast guard tree and then flying in with sticks into the bike park nest over the weekend.
Re: Vanier Park Eagles - 2018 & 2019 Seasons
I believe the eagles may be incubating an egg.

(I think the potential disturbance may have already been reported.)

Hi Dianna and Vanier Park eagle followers
Was down to Vanier Park at the first of the month to see if I saw any signs of pa Vanier or a new ma Vanier was around or nesting in either the old or new nest and I spotted pa sitting in one of his usual spots in the old nest tree over the Coastguard Station but I couldn't see in the nest to tell if there were eggs or not oh well we will know if we start to see activity in the nest bowl
Pa Vanier March 8/2019 sitting on a branch preening in the old nest tree
Will keep you posted every time I go to view any activity at Vanier Park Vancouver BC

Hi Judy
Thanks for your post and photo. They are definitely sitting on eggs in the new nest above the bike park. We are grateful that the parks board has fenced the area around the nest as per the wildlife guidelines .

Re: Vanier Park Eagles - 2018 & 2019 Seasons
Hi Diana do we still have a thread for Jericho eagles (cannot find it)? We were down there Saturday. Our son has seen them recently also the Vanier.
Re: Vanier Park Eagles - 2018 & 2019 Seasons
Great news on both counts. Let's hope they have successful eaglets and fledges.

Ground Observers Nesties
Was down to the old nest first by the Coast Guard Station but there wasn't an eagle to see, also tried to look in the nest from that view position but if there's eggs in there I would see an eagle sitting in the bowl and I saw none then we drove up the street to the new nest situated over a bicycle run and it looked pretty flimsy hanging there and half the size of the old nest so we couldn't tell if there were eggs or a female sitting on the empty nest puzzled because usually there is at least two eggs laid early in
March at this Urban nest but so far empty nest sysndrome
Thinking of Elle....you are so in my prayers my friend

Hi Judy
She is definitely sitting on eggs.. Mike has a picture of her on the nest and I have seen the pair switch and the male has been taking his turn incubating. I’ll post some pictures as soon as I get a chance .

Re: Vanier Park Eagles - 2018 & 2019 Seasons
I was down there the other day, and i would guess that they have an eaglet or two!
Re: Vanier Park Eagles - 2018 & 2019 Seasons
There are definitely still two eaglets in the nest as of yesterday. The bike park has been open for a few weeks now.
Eagle parents are taking turns hanging out in the tree beside the nest. We saw a parent deliver food yesterday but it hasnt been as regular as it was last year.
The city is considering adding a nesting pole in the woods this fall...a bit away from the bike park. Theyre planning a public open house.

The city posted up a survey to get support for their plan for Vanier, which includes an expansion to the bike park for small kids, and a permanent nesting pole for the eagles:

If you go down there you can see an eaglet looking pretty big !!
