LM12 has returned!

We're delighted to have LM12 back safe and sound for his eleventh season at the reserve!

Our visitors had a front row seat to see the male osprey arrive just after 12pm on Sunday 13 March. Soon after landing he chirped and set about moving sticks - his usual housekeeping activity. LM12 then went off in search of food, returning with a large fish that he ate on his favourite roost, the silver birch.

We're very hopeful of seeing NC0 return from her migration by the end of the month, and then we can start this new season in earnest!

Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre recently returned, for the first time in two years, to being open seven days a week. If you're thinking of visiting please check out our recent blog, where we outline what's changed since 2019.

Intruder Series: Ospreys

If you follow Loch of the Lowes’ social media and live osprey webcam, you may notice that our nesting ospreys NC0 and LM12 have to deal with regular nest intrusions from other ospreys. But why do ospreys intrude occupied nests? What do they want? As part of our intruders series, this blog will delve into the reasons behind osprey intrusions and highlight some of the key offenders of the season so far...

I am glad these two are doing well. It's sad about their sibling but...it is. The parents are exceptional and thank you Ferenz.
