35 hrs ago: 20.54.40 Night cam switches over on Sunday 30th August which was a fair weather day. Vera is still around - three months ago today, she was still in the egg two days from hatching, and now she's a big powerful bird ready to set off thousands of miles on migration, well fuelled by dad Louis, who brought her three fish today. Doddie is still in Somerset as reported on facebook, no word of Captain and Aila. Weather forecast for tonight is light cloud and light winds, sunny intervals and gentle breezes tomorrow and Tuesday, and changing to heavy rain for the rest of the week - good travelling weather now, will we see Vera tomorrow? Day cam was on for 15:05:00 hours.

Geemeff - 2 Sep 2020 10:
19.23 JJ8 pops up on the nest, fish calling although she has a hugely distended crop. She acts a bit strangely, calling softly, wing-flapping and perching on Doddie's perch before flying off to the right. Is this her farewell? She'll be 94 days tomorrow, same age as Rannoch was when she left, as Liz B points out. She left the nest at 19.29, so in case we don't see her, here's her potentially farewell visit:

Yes, carolyn, I expect she is migrating tomorrow afternoon - weather forcast is good - until monday morning. There will be more rain and worsening conditions...

Vera arrived with full crop, Louis delivered 2nd fish, Vera took it immediately & left to her safer favourite eating place I guess.

It is truly amazing that, by the weather forecast, we can predict migration and I am sure it will be correct. Bravo.....

Geemeff: Sunny intervals and a northerly wind forecast for tomorrow, heavy rain on Monday, means tomorrow should be a good day for travelling, so here's another 'just in case' potential final look at JJ8 video as she departs the nest, fishtail stuck to her foot, at 18.37 tonight. Goodnight all..

Geemeff 06.09.2020

Vera (JJ8) departs at 06.40.19 taking the remains of the two day old flatfish with her. She was heard calling off camera from 06.18.30 and arrived still calling at 06.19.41, had a quick look around then grabbed the two day old flatfish (delivered at 12.28.57 on Friday 4th) and started eating with enthusiasm. Is this her final visit? Vera will head south when she's ready, however, today just feels right for her last visit - she didn't really call for food in her usual vociferous way, just picked up the old flatfish and dived in for a good munch before leaving with the rest of it.

Is she grabbing a quick bite before heading south? Dare we ask, yet again - is this the last time? And the answer still is... time will tell! But at 97 days old today (6th September), with a full crop after lots of fish yesterday and the previous day, and a northerly wind today, Africa is beckoning, and the siren song is getting louder.
