I visited the osprey nest behind the Juan de Fuca rec centre on April 27th. One osprey was sitting in the nest looking around. The osprey have been seen and photographed at nearby Esquimalt Lagoon over the past couple of weeks. I'm hoping to see some little osprey chicks this season :luck:

I visited the osprey nest behind the Juan de Fuca Rec. Centre on May 10th. There are chicks in the nest but still too small to get a good view of them.

I could see the female in the nest as I entered the parking area and by the time I parked and got my camera out the male had flown in and perched on one of the light standards close to the parking area.

He flew off and circled around the field then landed in the nest.

I visited the Osprey nest behind the Juan de Fuca Rec. Centre on June 10th. One of the adults was in the nest when I arrived. The second adult flew in with prey then left and perched on the light standard. The light conditions were not favourable that day

I visited the osprey nest at the Juan de Fuca Rec. Centre on July 12th. One adult was in the nest with young; the 2nd adult flew in with food. He stayed for awhile then flew off, circled the field, then up and out of sight.

This is the opening post for the Lower Vancouver Island Osprey Nests for the 2023 nesting season.

On Apr. 28th I visited the nest area behind the Juan de Fuca recreation centre where the Osprey have had a nest atop one of the light standards on the ball field. One of the adults was perched on top of a nearby light standard calling to its mate. The nest looks ready for eggs :thumlft:

I visited the nest behind the Juan de Fuca Rec Centre on June 5th. Both adults were in and out of the nest bringing sticks and rearranging them. I missed seeing one flying in with a stick then flying off to another light standard. It stayed there for the rest of our time there while the other one was on the nest. It appears they are sitting on eggs but I didn't see any feeding posture.

The tail feathers are visible on the left in this first photo.

I visited the Osprey nest behind the Juan de Fuca Rec. Centre yesterday. One of the adults was standing in the nest the entire time I was there. I saw something in the nest but wasn't quick enough to capture it in a photo.

A short while later I heard a lot of vocalizing, looked up and saw 2 adult Osprey flying around overhead; they both disappeared behind the big trees. A few minutes later one of the adults flew over and landed on another lighting standard.

From a different vantage point I was able to capture one of the oprey chicks in the nest; it was a very windy day and they had been hunkered down in the nest.

I had a short visit at the osprey nest behind the Juan de Fuca Rec. Centre on July 26th. I had a couple of brief views of 2 chicks in the nest but not sure if I captured both in my photos. I believe one of the osprey in the nest was an adult.
