Good afternoon, everyone. Surprisingly, it appears that the cam is up; not surprisingly, the nest is empty. At least I think the cam is up - I can see the grass waving in a gentle breeze.
20190908_006.jpg

I tried looking back on the dvr, but it appears that the images are from before the storm and leading up to the storm - this is the final image of Handel I saw, which is back just a little bit on the dvr:
20190908_005.jpg

After using the dvr, I've needed to reload the page to get to the current time - or what I think is the current time. I'll try to keep an eye to see if anyone stops by. It would be nice to see him and Oscar - but they are both amazingly strong and I just know that they are fine.

I thought I'd add the outages map for the Halifax area:
20190908_007.jpg
There are currently 4,731 outages in the province, affecting 293,782 customers; according to Google, Nova Scotia Power provides service to 500,000 customers - which may mean that 60% of the homes and businesses in Nova Scotia are currently without power. The symbols with the multi-colored edges mean that each symbol represents a number of outages; individual outages would be a single color, signifying the number of customers affected.

Here's the current weather - much better than yesterday!

I think this is Oscar arriving with a fish.
20190908_010.jpg

He stood there briefly, then took off to the right with the fish - making me think Handel is still around. Dvr is still not letting me look back to recent activity, so the one picture is all there is.

Thank you Judy....I have been following too, but the cam was not up, just a fixed picture so you are fortunate to have gotten to see Oscar. It's good to see the tree is fine as it was in the target zone. I also have followed about power outages and know that most homes are out according to the power folks. I agree that they are strong and capable and will be fine (the osprey). You are the best!

Thanks, carolyn! I'm pretty sure I'm seeing a still picture now, too - not seeing any grass move or any little bugs on the nest, which is how I was guessing "live" earlier. I'll continue to keep the cam up and refresh from time to time, just in case.

That is a great plan Judy.....maybe you can catch it live again. :) I have always had trouble getting this cam and when the picture stayed exactly the same kind of figured I was not seeing it live. Timing is everything!

Well, I think what I've been seeing is a recording - I just saw what looked to me like the identical visit by an adult that I reported on earlier.

I did get a different s'cap of the adult standing in the exact same spot
20190908_012.jpg

And a bit of tail as he flew out of sight (upper right corner).
20190908_013.jpg

It was about 7:23 when I got the two screenshots above, and it's 7:31 now, and sunset is supposed to be 7:38 today, so I'd expect it to be a bit darker by now - though I won't know for sure for another 15-20 minutes. :)

Added - I found that right-clicking and choosing Play helped make the frozen screen move - but I'm thinking it's a video.

Added - 8 pm and it still looks like daylight - so a loop.

Earlier I saw the same nest view if that helps and it did not move or change. I agree it's a video and there is no power. We can wait and hope it comes back and when it does, all is OK there. Good delving into what you saw. :)

Here's the weather
20190909_003.jpg

The number of customers without power in Nova Scotia is down to 179,687.

I think the cam is live - though it seems a bit breezier than the forecast suggests. It's definitely a different picture than what I'd seen yesterday. One of the people on the chat below the cam noticed that some of the crib rails are lying in the nest, which is useful in terms of guessing what I'm seeing. This is what I think the nest looks like now:
20190909_004.jpg

I think the dvr is going back about 2 hours now, and I didn't see any visits looking back, though I could easily have missed something quick.

I did stumble across another image from a couple of hours before the cam went down - Oscar and Handel. This might be the delivery Bev documented around 10 am on Saturday, or could be a slightly later delivery; I thought I'd add it for the record.

Excellent Judy.....Yes, the nest looks different, rails in nest. If that is the extent of the damage then it's wonderful.
I just checked the nest myself and it is indeed covered with crib rails. And things are moving! So...it's live and one of the chatters said they saw chick and adult earlier (unless they saw a DVR, but that does not seem likely since chat folks know)......we'll see!

I've had the cam up quite a bit, and have looked back when I've been out, and haven't seen any activity beyond occasional little bugs on the nest. It does look as if the sun is getting lower, reassuring me that the cam is indeed live.
20190909_008.jpg

It would be nice if Oscar and Handel stopped by - but I feel confident that they are both fine, wherever they are.

Added - I see we're checking in at about the same time, carolyn. :bye 1:

Good morning, everyone and thanks for the pictures, Ferenz! I was watching on my iPad, though not as early as you were! I did try looking back a bit, and didn't see any visits.

11:39 am
Here is the weather:
20190910_001.jpg

And it looks as if the website that hosts the osprey cam (and other Nova Scotia web cams) went down a little while ago. I lost the connection on my iPad, and wasn't able to get the parent site once I got to my desktop. I'm guessing it's one of those things where they take an area off the grid briefly while they hook up an adjacent area where they've just finished fixing the downed lines - so will check back in a little while.

The number of customers without power is down to just a bit over 100,000 - but unfortunately (from my perspective), the estimate for when they hope to have power restored in the general area where Bev lives has been changed from by 10 pm today to by 10 pm tomorrow. Bev and her family knew the storm was coming, and they are all very resourceful, so I'm sure they're fine - if perhaps a bit bored. :)

Well said Judy...."bored".....I can imagine how they feel. Hurricane Ike kept us powerless for a few weeks and lots of downed trees and destruction so I understand all too well. The ice cream was the first thing to go (we had a party on the street to use it all up).

Also before the live feed went down. I watched and look back on the DVR and I believe the parent brought 3 fish that morning.
