GHO takes another chick from Hog Island Ospreys. 00.28 / 08 July 2018
Rachel was unable to stop the GHO, and it killed the chick on the nest.

Once again a tragedy in this nest & very sad news caused by that mighty predator GHO...hope that remaining 2 chicks will survive.

tonite around 00h45 Rachel was on the perch in "survey mode", then she vocalized and flew down to the nest. Always watching and hearing around...

I'm sure the spirit of Sierra and Aspen was there to welcome their little sibling.

At 04h11 Rachel saw something abnormal, then she flies away toward the new bright trees, calls and comes back 1 minute later

A second Osprey disappeared tonight around 03h10 am
Rachel saw the GHO and flew toward it but sometimes later the GHO was in the nest an ont the little one i think
Then Rachel came back and the GHO flew away alone
sometime later Rachel saw the GHO again and went after it. It had the time to come back and again on the poor oslet.
Rachel came back, attacked the GHO and all flew out of the nest and i heard Something hitting (or only touching) the sea below so the oslet ? the GHO ? both ? But May be it's a part of nest material which touch the water because i didn't hear more noise after that...

I can only say, after the first attack the oslet has certainly a breath problem as i was able to hear it breathing soundly...
