Harassed by magpies, SE24 flew away and is now on the ground, SE23 in the nest

Reading the chat, it seems SE24 battled against a fox but not so clear (before my last pics)
In fact, Chatters came to Watch and protect the SE and that's why the fox ran away
:luck: SE24 :luck:

and SE24 is still harassed by birds like SE23 in the nest too at the same moment

SE24 flew toward the left and may be a little bit higher now.
Not possible for a fox to catch it where SE24 is, not high but enought to be well protected.

In fact SE24, you are a lucky one !
The time SE24 spent to battle the fox saved his life, during that moment the Rangers or people coming had the time to come and to chase the fox by the noise they did approaching ! :thumlft:

Thank you Philjo for your excellent coverage of last evenings drama.

Right after my last post about 24's fledge, we at home got the sad news of the passing away of a dear family friend. Not unexpected as he was very ill, however very sad as he was only 36 yrs old and leaves behind a wife and 4 young children.

SE 24 found this morning perched in some trees. Well off the ground. :thumlft:
r8lakes 16m
he is real close to the nest tree but hidden on other side of the leafy bush he is on. Problem is getting up on something sturdy to fly closer. He can sure hear the parents from where he is and if he was on the other side of the bush he is on, he could see the nest

Se McGregor‎ to Sydney Sea Eagle Cam
25 mins ·
Afternoon everyone. Just a quick clarification on the events of yesterday afternoon.

There were three lots of panning on the ground between 3:30 and 4pm SE24 and fox were not there. I panned the camera around 5pm and various times up to 5:27pm;
they were not on the ground.

I found them at 5:42pm and Rohan was in the reserve about 10 minutes later. We do have procedures for this kind of circumstance. The only thing different to normal was that Judy was in Perth and after I contacted her, she contacted all of the relevant authorities. Cathy was the designated "ground recovery person" for this weekend (with others away or unavailable). We were fortunate that Rohan was watching and was close by.

While there was a gap between SE24 being knocked off his perch and being sighted on the ground, I think that he was still up in the canopy. Between 5 and 5:30, there was movement in a semi-blind spot behind & below the nest. I think he fell to the ground after that. Why? The position where SE24 and the fox were, was directly under that blind spot.

In a nutshell, SE24 faced off with the fox for somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes, not 3 hours.

To young to leave his family and friends.

UPDATE 14th Oct 2:30pm SE24 is pretty close to where he was last night. He is about 3 metres off the ground and approximately 40 metres away from nest.
His position earlier allowed him sight of SE23 on the nest, unsure of whether he can still see up there. He was able to hear SE23 honking when magpie was swooping and seemed quite animated.
He as also been seen flying (was on the ground for a little while).
Thank you Cathy for the photo and spending the day in the mosquito ridden reserve watching a stationary seaglet! Unlikely there will be a further update today.
