Very sad news from EagleCAM
November 12 2024 :
We are sad to report that our younger juvenile SE34 has been euthanased. She received loving care after being found far from home, but after further veterinary assessment her future was not deemed possible. Severe eye problems and lack of vision in one eye meant she was virtually blind and would probably be in pain. Life is hard for newly fledged raptors.
Unfortunately the other juvenile SE33 has also been found injured and is in care for further assessment. We are waiting for further information on SE33’s condition and future now and shall keep our followers informed.
Life is difficult for juvenile Sea-eagles, particularly in the city. But we shall keep watching and monitoring their progress in the future.

Re: 2024 AUSTRALIAN WHITE-BELLIED SEA-EAGLE
Better news from EagleCAM concerning SE 33.
Nov 13 2024 ( Australian time)
I have just heard good news about SE33: He has no fractures; is in reasonable condition, though a little thin; he has eaten. His progress will be reviewed in a couple of days- to rest and recover, and to gain condition.
He has been judged a male, from his measurements. So good to hear.
----------------------------------------
Poor SE34 was in fact blind in both eyes, (cause unknown) which was the reason for her euthanasia.

· November 19 2024:
Good news:
SE33 our older juvenile is progressing well in care, but needs to gain strength and condition.
He can fly and is now eating well and putting on weight.
He will stay in care for now and will be assessed again by the vet soon.

"November 25; Good news.
We have heard from the Care Facility that our juvenile SE33 has been cleared by the vets and is fit and ready to go to a rehabilitation facility.
There he will gain strength and more experience before release."

28th November, 2024 - SE33 had a lovely car trip today to his rehab facility.
He looks really great!
His release ( from care to the rehab facility) weight was 2.6kgs which is great for a male WBSE.

News from Ranger Judy , December 4:
"Good news about SE33: looking good, eating well and has been banded ready for release.
I was lucky enough to see him banded and measurements taken. "
It has been determined SE 33 is male.

December 6: we have released SE33 in a safe place in his home territory.
He took his time and checked out his surroundings. Flew very well.
Got good height.
Crossed the river.
Disappeared from view behind the mangroves.

news from the Nest December 11. 2024 : more action today. Eagles were at Goat Island early. Then early afternoon our searchers saw SE33 down on the river, circling over then behind River roost. Dad showed up there late afternoon and then to our surprise was seen briefly at the nest before leaving again.

January 6: sad news from the nest. Last week we received a call from a vet. She had a banded juvenile, which I have confirmed is our bird. The rescue was at Spring Farm, in a suburban backyard, and he was unable to fly. SE33 was x-rayed and it was confirmed the left wrist is dislocated severely. The decision was made to euthanase the bird, as chances of flight and life without pain are slim. It is suspected the injury was caused by acute trauma. It was good news * to learn that the bird had good body condition and has definitely not been struggling since release. SE33 had survived alone in the wild, after leaving the adults and the familiar river area. He had travelled at least 55km away from the nest area. He was initially taken into care on November 12, to rehab facility on November 28 (where he was banded) and released on December 6 down on the river.

I'm so sorry DDuckies2
* I'm sorry but i can't call the following comment as a good news, not today, and probably not another future day The only message i can read is we have no survival eaglets in this nest for the 2024 season and it is a very bad news.
