Logging in on the West cam briefly - hearing calls (not likely eagle) and wondering what critter is where. May also log into East if I don't see anyone with West.

6:06 pm
No calling heard by the time I'd posted and logged in, and no one sighted.

I am out of the cams.

Have a good evening, everyone.
Hiya Judy. Do you think it could have been Osprey? They like to perch on the top of one of the cams so we almost never see them.

1705 - A raptor right here but I cannot tell what. Hawk perhaps.

ADDED: This is Osprey with the brown body and whiter head

Maybe, CC - but we have more osprey than eagles in coastal Maine, and I think I would have known, though they can make some very strange calls. :dunno:

IN on the cams

6:10 - AE on the grain tower

6:24 - I am guessing these guys are Turkey Vultures, only because it's too early for young Eagles to be returning and that territory is occupied by a pair.

I found an Eagle on the dock pole for the first time since before the last nesting season.

I see a large bird perched in a cottonwood near the grain tower

Pretty scenery with the fall colours and the fog

It's too foggy on the south side to see if the South East pair are home.

IN on the cams

1435 - TWO AE's near the Grain Tower. How cute. :rh: I love it when they perch close together.

I obviously need a little break - for a moment I was picturing a bunch of floating television sets, and wondering how in the world that happened! :%:

And I'm even a fan of turkey vultures! :thumlft:

The eagles are coming...

...and we could use some help!

Looking back through our records, the eagles start returning to their territories as early as the last week in September - which is now! Most of them will probably be back by mid-October, beginning to work on their nests, and with a bit of luck raise some chicks in the spring.

Observers Needed!

I may be slightly biased, but I think we have one of the greatest teams of observers and zoomers on the internet! There's a bit of a catch, though - it gets lonely at times. We see a fluffy little eaglet do something cute - and post a cute little picture and description - and sometimes there are other folks watching who notice something else - maybe the other eaglet was watching to see how their sibling managed to pick up a tiny stick.

However, there are times when other people might be watching - but don't add a comment. Maybe they feel a little shy, or worried that they don't know the right word for something. Those of us who do post were all there once! And I suspect I sometimes don't stop to think how hard it can feel to jump into a conversation. Here's the secret - we would love to have you join the discussion - but don't always know how to ask.

I'm asking.

Here's a picture from White Rock last year, when the eaglets were a couple of days old.

It's great if you know which chick is which and which parent that was - and it's also great to just say "2:33 pm - wonderful to watch one of the adults feed one of the chicks while the other looks around"!

Please consider joining the forum if you aren't a member - and consider posting some observations if you are a member or become a member. We also have a number of ground observer threads where people can report on their local eagles and other wildlife - and would love to hear from more folks who see eagles up close and personal.

Zoomers Needed!

If all goes well, we will have 15 cams streaming for the 2025 nesting season, covering 7 nests in British Columbia. Our small group of zoomers is very dedicated - but we could catch so much more of the action on the nests if we had a larger group of dedicated zoomers. The first step toward becoming a zoomer is to pick one or two of our nests, watch what's happening, and begin to post some observations. After a little while, you'll begin to notice ways to tell the adults apart - and by sharing those with other observers, you'll help us all become more accurate in our posts. Once you know a bit about the eagles and the area - and we know a bit about you and your posting style - please let me or one of the other zoomers know if you'd be interested in learning to zoom. It really is fun - and there's so much more we could see if we had people available to follow the action more often.

Money Needed!

A big thanks to all who have donated to our annual fund drive! We've raised almost $3500, which is wonderful - and less than we were hoping to raise, in part because we really could use some new people who can help explain why we need money for the monthly internet and tech support charges that let us have this giant forum with all this fantastic documentation - my posts are beginning to put even me to sleep!

There's still plenty of time to adopt one of our nests or join our Monthly Donor plan to help with monthly expenses or make a one time donation - and it really does make a difference.
