Good morning, everyone! Wonderful that you caught them both working on the nest, ondabebe! Keeping fingers crossed!

Parksville (where today's weather forecast is based) is a town just down the coast from French Creek - and one of the young eagles we're following with our BETA (Bald Eagle Tracking Alliance) project is from Parksville. TERF10/Parksville and a sibling were banded as nestlings at the Parksville Eagle Preserve, and TERF10 got a tracker so we would be able to follow his or her travels after leaving the nest.

Here's a map of the area, with a red circle showing where French Creek is.

Here where he or she has been so far:

And a closer look - the blue lines at the right show where his/her nest was, and the lines at the left show where she/he is exploring this week.

You can follow her/his travels here - https://hancockwildlife.org/our-project ... ge/terf10/ - and read more about TERF10 and the area on our forum thread here - viewtopic.php?f=95&t=570

Getting back to our French Creek eagles, I just checked the dvr, and didn't see any activity.

But they definitely were busy yesterday afternoon, and that gives me hope.

It's now 8:08 am.

G'morning all :)
It's been exciting to see eagles at the nest! It looks like the same pair that visited earlier this year. Her eyes seem unique. Kinda' deep set.
Fingers crossed :luck:

Good morning, everyone! Thanks for the report on the visit ondabebe - nice to see them together! And good to see you here, Bill - I was thinking that at least one looked the same, but I will need to see them a bit more to be sure.

Special Weather Statement
Issued at 04:54 Saturday 23 October 2021

Very windy conditions are forecast to begin Sunday for Vancouver Island and neighbouring regions along the Strait of Georgia. The strong winds will continue into Monday.

Locations: West Vancouver Island, North Vancouver Island, East Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast, Southern sections of Howe Sound, Southern Gulf Islands, Greater Victoria, Metro Vancouver - Southwest, Central, North Shore especially over exposed coastal areas.

Time span: Sunday morning to Monday afternoon.

Remarks: A rapidly deepening low pressure system from the Pacific will approach Vancouver Island on Sunday. Rain and strong winds will begin on Sunday morning.

Southeast winds of 70 to 90 km/h with gusts possibly exceeding 100 km/h are expected over West and North Vancouver Island. Easterly winds of 60 km/h with possible gusts to 90 will develop over East Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and over southern Vancouver Island near Juan de Fuca Strait. Winds will ease near Juan de Fuca Strait by Sunday afternoon but persist elsewhere.

As the low pressure system moves closer Sunday night, the strong winds will strengthen over the inner south coast on Monday morning. Western sections of Metro Vancouver and southern sections of Howe Sound will have their strongest winds Monday morning with gusts to 80 km/h before easing Monday afternoon.

As of now, there is good confidence for the strongest winds to be over West Vancouver Island and that the low pressure system will track across northern Vancouver Island on Monday. Wind warnings for most of the south coast will likely be issued later today.

French Creek is on the eastern shore of Vancouver Island, and looks fairly far south to me, so it sounds as if the area around the nest will miss the worst of the storm but there will be some serious winds Monday morning.

Stay safe, people and eagles.

Thanks for posting the weather and checking the dvr, Bev - sounds like some serious winds for the next day or so.

The embedded cam is frozen at 1:33 pm. I couldn't log into the cam directly, so checked the BC Power Outages page and found there are a whole lot of outages - including one that appears to include the area around the nest. (Note - the times on the picture are eastern time because it's using my settings - it looks as if the power went out a few minutes before the cam stopped, so either power went down in a couple of steps or there's a battery supply that kept things running for a few minutes.)

Cam is back up, with thanks to BC Power, to Denise who said the power was back, and to Ken who restarted the stream.

It still sounds very windy, so it may go back down again. Denise (who lives in the area) said that the sun was shining but it looked ominous.
