Re: French Creek Estuary Eagles, Vancouver Island - 2020-2021
There was a very early morning visit by Mr FC at 4:32 am. He stood around a lot, chewed on the evergreen behind the nest, dropped a small piece of it on the nest and moved a stick. At 4:45 Mrs FC put in a short appearance before they both left at about at 4:46 am.
4:32 am Mr FC arrives
4:38 am Putting a tiny piece of greenery he broke off the evergreen on the nest
4:44 am After trying many of the sticks that are nailed down, he finally found one he could move

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for posting the date, nightowl!
I'm posting the weather partly because it includes sunset and sunrise times.
We had a visit last night, and one this morning!
From the dvr....
One of the adults arrived at 9:38 pm, flying into the nest from overhead and then moving to the left edge and out of sight; this isn't a very clear picture, I'm afraid, but best I could do.
Then at 9:40 pm, an adult flew into the nest from the side
And I was able to get a slightly better image that time.
I really don't know if this was the other adult, or if that one flew off briefly and returned.
That eagle also walked to the left edge of the nest and appeared to step out of sight onto the supports there.

Continuing from the dvr....
The visit last night was about 20 minutes after sunset; this morning the action started an hour before sunrise!
4:27 am
An eagle appeared at the left side of the screen and walked out onto the nest - did he or she spend the night there?
Less than a minute later, the other eagle flew in; I'm including this s'cap as it shows the upper tail, which occasionally helps us ID the adult on a nest.
They were looking around a couple of times - but the first one to arrive didn't look urgent, and they didn't call as far as I could tell, so I don't think there was any sort of alarm. I just listened for a minute or so before we saw the first one and didn't hear any calls.
They were both on the nest until 4:34 am when one flew off.

Continuing....
The other one stayed perched at the edge of the nest until 4:49, when he or she moved into the nest.
He or she looked around a bit,
And flew off at 4:51 am.
It's now 11:53 am. I did a quick check of the dvr and didn't see any additional visits.

Good morning, everyone, and nightowl!
8:08 am
I did a quick check of the dvr with an emphasis on the times near dusk and dawn, and did not see any visits, though I might have missed a quick in-and-out.
I do generally check the dvr a couple of times a day (and I know others do as well), but don't generally post if there has been no activity.
