January 26, 2023 - This thread has been brought forward from Archives to accommodate a number of photos of eagles taken over the past 4 years in the Pandora/Lafarge neighborhood. The majority of them are of eagles on what is believed to be one of the Pandora/Lafarge eagles' perch trees located in Trinity Park, on Wall Street, just down the hill from their nest. Some of the photos are, no doubt, of the Pandora/Lafarge pair but since we can't be sure which eagles are the Pandora eagles, as opposed to the visiting eagles, the photos will be housed in the resurrected Lafarge Nest Neighborhood thread.
With thanks to Shari Whittaker (new forum member "Wallstreetshari") who kindly gave us permission to post her wonderful photos beginning here!
Lafarge Nest Neighbourhood & More - 2018
This thread has been created to help Lafarge nest viewers identify the various locations covered by the camera, on or nearby the Lafarge Cement Plant site, that Pa and Lady perch on while watching and defending their territory.
Covered is the Lafarge site and perching spots included in the cam rotation, the Pandora nest in relation to the Artificial nest as viewed by the camera and the Church Cross the eagles perch on in relation to both the camera view and the Pandora nest,
Also there are maps and pics to show the location of the Lafarge site in relation to eagle nests located in North Vancouver just across Burrard Inlet.
ABBREVIATIONS USED WHEN POSTING IN THE LAFARGE DISCUSSION THREAD (For a more comprehensive and pictorial description of the locations of the abbreviations click HERE).
Note - some of us use the following abbreviations in our posts to describe the different perch points the Lafarge eagle pair use:
AN (Artificial Nest): The AN is a nest on a pole that David Hancock built and installed as backup for the dying tree where the eagles were nesting. The nest tree has since been destroyed in a wind storm; however, the eagles have not used the AN for nesting as yet - but they enjoy perching there, and we're hoping....
SA (Square Arch): We're not quite sure what the proper name is, but this is the structure at the edge of the inlet on the end of a large pipe coming from the Lafarge plant. We don't know if it's used for loading barges with finished product or unloading raw materials, but we sometimes see barges there - and we almost always see lots of birds perched on the top railings of the structure (when the eagles are not present that is!)
DE (Distant Evergreen) & LCE (Left Closer Evergreen): There are two small green spaces located east of the Lafarge plant site. After the VersaCold plant was demolished the green spaces became visible and we could see that the eagles were using two evergreen trees (the DE and LCE) as perch trees. The DE is located in the green space farthest from the camera. The LCE is located in a clump of trees in the green space closest to the camera and to the left of the DE.
**LB (Little Building): Formerly a favorite perch site:
The LB, was probably the roof access for the large VersaCold complex. When we first saw the eagles perched on its roof and before we pulled the cam back for a wider view and saw the huge building underneath, it looked very much like a little building.
**NOTE: The (LB) disappeared with the demolition of the VersaCold plant. The last of it came down on February 24, 2017.

Overhead view of Lafarge site: Overhead view zoomed in. Note: You can see the Artificial Nest (AN) - it shows up as a black line The white building is the Sand Tower. The Camera is mounted on the pole on the roof of the Sand Tower. The pole on the left is the base of the AN. (Photo by KarenB taken in 2012)
