Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
Congratulations to Brit & Rey on their first egg.
Narrative:
Congratulations are in order! Brit laid their first egg for this nesting season Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 1:53 pm. Brit began her labor around 1:47 pm. She waited a few minutes to allow us to see her egg and that happened when Rey brought in a stick. He certainly was interested in the new addition. As a result, he got his first look. After a bit, both made an announcement to the world with vocals.
The video begins with the north cam while Brit is in labor and moves to the first glimpses of the new egg. Then we see Brit from the south cam while she was in labor. They have constructed a nest bowl so deep we cannot see down into the nest bowl from the south cam.
Congratulations with their first egg

5:14 pm in rollback, Brit had been lying down and it looked like a rain shower came through. Her back is wet. She then sat over her egg and moved to digging in the nest bowl. Now we see her give her egg a roll.

7:21 pm Brit is standing over her egg. It is a way of allowing the egg to cool or to regulate the egg's temperature.

It's been a long week lol. I was thinking about the time between Lof and Tyr hatching last year.

7:28pm.......Thanks CC for being here to keep watch! Good to see Rey getting a turn at incubating the egg! He has been so excited and wanting to do this!
Wondering about the egg being uncovered for a few minutes? I'm thinking maybe the cool down is already starting in order to get 2 eggs hatching close together in time.
I see Brit is now back on the nest.
