Got Rey spotted looks like he’s escorting a few larger birds out of the area south east of the nest
Re: Surrey Reserve 2023-2024 Observation and Discussion
1:12 pm in rollback, something to Brit's attention. She is up, vocalizes and flies. But she returns quickly and vocalizes.

1:16 pm in rollback, Brit returns to the nest bowl and does some maintenance. Can see how perfectly formed the nest bowl is. She lies down and back up again to give her egg a roll. She then laid down again.

Thanks, Ryan, for eyes on the ground. Rey is such a great protector and provider.

Thanks, Ryan, for the article. I read one on delayed incubation and if I remember correctly, the temps for the egg development range from about 84 (28 c) degrees to 105 degrees (41 c appx). Of course the nest bowl plays a part in development. And Brit and Rey have a very nice deep bowl.Ryan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 12:06 pmhttps://raptorresource.blogspot.com/201 ... n.html?m=1
I had this bookmarked , great article about delay incubation for us , also David Hancock is referenced in the article we are so blessed to have David as his work is known and most respected ! Well done David !!
Just wanted to share this for visitors seeing Brit and Rey not fully covering or sitting there is no need to worry

1:27 pm Brit is up and on alert with vocals. She certainly is keeping watch and doesn't like what she sees.

Out for a walk around noon, I caught Rey (at least I think it is Rey) leaving the nest (12:10), perching in a tree across the way (12:14) and then returning to the nest (12:15). Unfortunately, I was quite a distance away and the skies were pretty gloomy so it doesn't make for very detailed shots.

12:15 pm in rollback and out of sequence. Well, holy moly, I totally skipped a change of guard mid-day. Thanks skyleynhans for your post to call attention to the change. Brit flies and Rey comes in for egg duty.

1:12 pm in rollback and out of sequence, Rey is up, vocalizes and flies. Maybe Ryan this is when he took on a chase. Brit returned to the nest a minute later.
I had forgotten how active these two can be when they have an egg to protect. “Eagles: When they walk, they stumble. They are not what one would call graceful. They were not designed to walk. They fly. And when they fly, oh, how they fly, so free, so graceful. They see from the sky what we never see.” – Unknown

1:57 pm in rollback, so let's get back in sync after I completely skipped one change of the guard. Brit is in the nest and she gets up to fly. The egg is partially covered with nesting material.
