Good morning, SR friends. Thursday, March 28, 2024

3:21 am Brit is tucked in standing over her egg. During the night, Brit has moved from incubating her egg to standing over her egg. There were a couple of times it look like she may have given her egg a roll. This was hard to see with her back to us. But did see one gentle roll.

gemini, thanks so much for the videos of the intruder. Oh my that seems like an unusual event! I have often wondered if there are more adults in Brit and Rey's territory than we know. This one was sure bold. Good job of Rey defending their nest and Brit protecting her egg.gemini wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 11:00 pmHere's a couple of videos of the intruder earlier this evening!

5:43 am when Rey landed, both Brit and Rey vocalized. Then he sat for several minutes. Brit would softly chatter but it seem evident she wasn't ready to give up her egg duty. Rey flew at 5:32 am and Brit remains on egg duty.

6:52 am in rollback, my goodness, this is interesting interaction between Rey and Brit. He lands in the nest and gives her a bit of a push to get her to move over. He moves over in front of the egg and leans in to give it a gentle roll. All at the same time, Brit is chattering with him. Could she be giving him instructions on incubating or is she telling him to go get her something to eat first before you get your turn to take care of the egg. Regardless she wasn't ready for him to take his turn at egg duty. She has been practicing delayed incubation by standing over the egg. This is a good thing as it helps to get the this egg and another egg to hatch closely together.
Note: Rey delivered a bit of food with this delivery. Didn't see it earlier but see it now at 10:19 am with someone eating.

6:53 am in rollback, Rey leans down to dig in the nest bowl as Brit continues to chatter with him. Now Rey steps back with Brit still standing away from the egg.

6:59 am in rollback, Rey then flies and Brit continues to stand over her egg.

7:13 am can see a bit of the egg as Brit stands over it. I should have logged in a couple of minutes earlier to get a better look at the egg.
