3:43 am after a few more vocals, Brit seems settled down with her eggs. Hopefully the owl has moved on.

Here is a video of the early morning owl attacks around 3:23 am.
Narrative:
In the early morning hours, an owl attacked Brit three times and did a fly by as Brit was in the nest taking care of her eggs. The owl tried three times to knock Brit from her nest and did a fly by. She vocalizes and defends her eggs with each occurrence. The owl was close to the nest as can hear the hooting sounds. Finally, Brit settled down in the nest bowl with her eggs after defending them. And all is quiet.

4:38 am in rollback, Brit is awake and gives her eggs a nice roll. Then she settles down and goes to sleep.

6:52 am in rollback, Brit got up earlier and rolled her eggs. She is back up to give her wings a stretch. Can see wet feathers so it has been sprinkling rain. She vocalizes after having a PS. Brit went back to the nest bowl and looked to give her eggs another roll.

7:09 am Brit is incubating her eggs. Something is going on as there is noise of machinery coming from below. It doesn't seem to be bothering Brit as she is used to urban sounds.

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for starting our day here, nightowl! :bye 1:

Thank you for the reports, pictures and videos of the owl attack last night, gemini and Sandy - I saw a bit of it live, and it was quite scary!

Checking the dvr, Brit looked up a couple of times, but didn't call - guessing either Rey was around, or there may have been some little birds that drew her attention but didn't worry her.

From the dvr....

8:11 am
Brit made a little call, got up and flew off.

8:13 am
Adult arrives on the nest and goes to the eggs.

The adult is still there, so I'm logging in on south briefly for a closer look at the back feathers.

I think this is Rey, but it's not a good angle for seeing the feather with the notch.

He was dozing a bit....

...but the eye popped open when I zoomed in with the South cam - which is not that close - they really are very aware of their surroundings.
20230331_006.jpg

He was fussing a bit with the sticks and grasses nearby, and paused to give us a smile.

I've pulled the cam back a bit so we can see them come and go, and am out of the cam.

Have a good day!

Exciting night! Thanks to everyone who got the pictures and video, as if they don't have enough to worry about with a first year of being parents, so many pitfalls to avoid!

Thanks for stopping by, Janillb - it does seem as if it's always something, doesn't it? And happily so far all the proper instincts are kicking in!

12:49 pm
The adult on the nest got up and flew off at 12:37 pm, right after this s'cap.

Someone was back at 12:39 and settled onto the eggs/

I need to step away from the computer - will check the dvr when I get back from my walk unless someone else gets there first!

1:35 pm Brit is up and looked to give her eggs a roll. She then aerates the nest bowl before settling down with her eggs. Can see rain drops on the cam and some on Brit's back.

Checking the dvr back to my post from around 8:30 am....

By 9:47 am, Rey had been up several time to tend the eggs and have a bit of a stretch - and I finally got a view of what I think is the notch in his feather - I included an insert cropped from full screen to show it a bit more clearly.
20230331_013.jpg

Nice view as he turns the eggs at 10:20 am.
20230331_015.jpg

He was getting up quite often - I think it takes some practice to get comfortable lying on an egg!

11:55 am
Up for a stretch, providing a look at the top of the tail feathers - which are a way to tell them apart, though I haven't learned the different patterns yet.

Continuing from the dvr....

12:22 pm
Rey is up for a stretch; it looks as if he has a bit of fluff sticking out from under one of his feathers.
20230331_017.jpg

After looking around for a couple of minutes, he returned to incubating.

At 12:37 pm, he got up again, gave a little call, and flew off. An adult was back at 12:29 pm.

I think this is Brit - less stain on the tail, no fluff sticking out, and the eye is different.
20230331_018.jpg

And that brings us up to Sandy's 1:35 pm post on the previous page - viewtopic.php?f=114&t=640&start=3795#p659333

It's now 1:55 pm, and Brit is incubating her eggs. I think it's raining a bit.

2:35 pm in rollback, Rey brings something to the nest...dirty grass maybe? Brit had softly vocalized so guessing she wasn't ready for a break. Rey then hops to the upper branch.

HI Judy, I have a problem with trying to identify each of their tails. Just when I think I have, I don't. And it looks like both of their feathers are changing a bit as well.
