5:03pm.......Congratulations Brit and Rey on your first egg! I guess they did know what they were doing and it was just a matter of time until that egg appeared!

5:01 pm Brit is settled down with her first egg. I am too always amazed at this process of how gentle and careful they are with their eggs. Stay safe tonight, Brit and Rey.
5:04 pm logging off the south cam. We are all proud for you. “Eagles: When they walk, they stumble. They are not what one would call graceful. They were not designed to walk. They fly. And when they fly, oh, how they fly, so free, so graceful. They see from the sky what we never see.” – Unknown

5:22 pm in rollback, Brit is up and moves some grasses. She shimmies back down to cover her egg.

5:41 pm Brit giving her egg a few rolls and digs in the grasses. This helps to keep the temperature at a correct number for that precious egg. What a wonderful mom she will make.

Good questions - and I saw her tail pop up fairly early in the process (sometimes an indicator) - and while I'm not a mother eagle, I think things were fairly quick and easy for a first egg.
Done dinner now, and going back to check the dvr and try to find a time for when the egg was laid - and happy to hear the opinions of others.
I'm also going to call David Hancock - he doesn't always see emails right away, and I know he'll be thrilled.

1752 - Rey flew in with a stick. Could he tell something was different?

7:45 pm
I've spent some time looking at the dvr, and I think the egg was laid at 16:22:09 (4:22 pm), although she did a flip with her tail a few minutes earlier at 16:16:22, and females sometimes do that when an egg appears, but she was rocking for a while longer, and settled down after 4:22 pm. The first view of the egg that I could find was at 16:43:29 (4:43 pm).
If anyone has another time in mind, please let us know - it's a bit tricky when we don't get a look for a while.
And please do feel free to post pictures and videos - this is the first egg for this young pair, and I think that the more documentation we have, the better!
Rey was just in with another stick - and Brit didn't get up to show him the egg. I do wonder how he'll react the first time he sees it - pretty sure he has good instincts, but the actual figuring out how to sit on a big roly-poly lump may take a bit of time!
It's been a long day, so I'll say goodnight now.
Sleep well, people and eagles!
Almost forgot - I called David Hancock, and Brit was kind enough to get up and show him the egg while we were on the phone - he is thrilled to see an egg here, as are we all!
Added - thank you all for the great coverage here today, and all the s'caps - and thank you, gemini, for the videos of the egg being laid! If anyone else has videos or s'caps, please feel free to share them - this is the first egg ever for this young pair, so I'm all for more documentation!

Gemini's wonderful videos (above - viewtopic.php?f=114&t=640&start=3525#p657271) show the process of Brit laying her first egg ever - mine is a sketchier overview from both cams, including the reveal of the egg and Brit nestling in to incubate after turning it. We don't usually both post videos, but this is an exciting event, so....
First Egg at Surrey Reserve (7:15, both cams)
And if others have additional screenshots or videos, please do feel free to add them - I'm quite sure that Brit is a young adult and Rey isn't a lot older, and odds are very good this is the first time either of them have ever produced an egg. They both seem to have really good instincts - but there may be a few scary moments as they learn how to become the great eagle parents I just know they will be.
And now I'm really
Good night, people and eagles!

21:36 - Brit is off her egg, possibly to delay incubation if she was going to lay a second egg.
Hey Marianne, glad you stopped in to join the excitement.

Good very early morning, everyone, and thanks for starting our day, everyone!
1:21 am
Brit got up at 1:07 am to check her egg and do a bit of digging in the nest.
And now she's been standing beside the nest for a bit over 10 minutes, taking a break and keeping watch over the egg, and possibly delaying incubation as CC had suggested.
