Thanks, gemini and Bev! Did a quick check of the dvr and didn't see any visits.

Ken rebooted the server, which seemed to help somewhat - and sometimes it's also necessary to reboot the cams afterwards, so I'm rebooting North now.

5:21 pm
I had been hearing Thor, and he/she arrived as I was posting.

Loki Update

This is Loki, just before she fledged on June 28:
20200716_015_loki-jun28.jpg

As many of you know, her initial flights were great - but on July 1, I think she tried to land on a power line, and ended up upside down and dangling - and happily her human neighbors called OWL, and they caught her when she came down, and brought her to their facility in Delta, to make sure she had no serious injuries.

She had a small black mark on one foot - possibly a burn from the power line - but happily after two weeks they did not see any additional injuries. (I'm using she/her because they weighed Loki, and her weight suggests she's female.)

And if all continues to go well, tomorrow morning she will be returned to the area around the nest, when she can continue with her life. We have no clue if she will return to the nest - but if she does, we will know her by the blue band with white letters on one of her legs (I'll let you know the numbers when she's released - we don't have them yet).

She may also have a little solar panel on her back, which will power a tracker hidden in her back feathers, so we know where she goes in the next few months. Again, it will be a while before the link to follow her is public, and when it is, I'll share it here. I have to admit I have mixed feelings about that - from all the nests I've watched and everything I've read, I do not think the tracker will harm her in any way or make it harder for her to live her life. But I also know that the first few years are hard for eagles, and if things don't work out as we all hope, I'd rather not know. But on the other hand, if she comes back in 5 or 6 years to raise little eagles of her own - we can say we knew her as a little fluff ball.

So - I'll try to be online tomorrow morning - and will share any information as soon as I learn it.

And I've asked David Hancock and Myles for pictures - and hope to be able to share those as well.

And Thor - I know you won't have fancy bling like Loki - but you were our first hatched chick, and will always be special in our hearts.

You are both strong, beautiful eagles - and I wish you all the best in the years to come. :huggie:

Thanks Judy for the additional update on Loki. “She” has always had a special place in my heart bc she always had to sneak and grab food before Thor could eat it all. But that is the life of a 2nd hatch and they learn survival lessons well. Wishing the best for Loki and Thor. Hope we get to see pictures of her release and :luck: she’ll come to the nest.

10:30 pm Following up on Thor's 5:21 pm visit observed by JudyB.....

5:23 pm Thor wandered around picking at any leftovers she/he could find.

5:40 pm Having exhausted all that s/h could find Thor left.

7:48 pm Thor returned to nest - the cam was pixelating badly so couldn't get a clear shot until just before s/h moved up to the crooked branch.

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for your posts, Bev,

I am rebooting the North cam again - and checked quickly and did not see any visits. I've had the cam up on my phone part of the morning and didn't hear any calls.

I took a quick peek at the far tree and didn't see anyone there.

We still do not have a time for the release - I'll post as soon as I know anything.

I haven't seen any eagles (and just checked North dvr), but thought I might have heard Thor a couple of minutes ago.

Still no exact time for Loki's release - probably after 4 pm, but that's all I've heard so far.

OWL (Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society) just posted a video of Loki in the flight cage to their Facebook page, announcing that she'll be released today. Link to the video may be https://www.facebook.com/OWLRehab/video ... 611283294/ - and it looks as if it's public so you should be able to see it without being a member of Facebook.

Here are two screenshots taken from the video:
20200717_loki_owl.jpg
20200717_loki-2_owl.jpg

It looks as if Loki is no longer showing as much of the white underlayer in front, so it may be a good thing that she will have a band to help us know who is who.
