Good afternoon, everyone, and thanks for the reports, Bev and gemini. I was catching up on some things around the house, so just checking in now.

From the dvr, checking back to gemini's post

12:49 pm - North was a bit blurry, but fun to watch. Res arrived with a stick, then found a piece of bark she thought belonged on Sur's back:
20200315_001.jpg

This is a bit more in focus - you can see something on his back as she digs around in the nest.
20200315_002.jpg

12:52 pm
Both were looking the same way and calling - I suspect someone was coming to near the nest.

Nice to see them both on the nest, though it looked as if Res was trying to make a second nest cup. I do not think she plans to lay more eggs - just moving things around while Sur ignores her and continues to incubate the eggs.

Sur on the right, looking relaxed, while Res does some work on the nest.

Continuing from dvr....

12:56 pm
They are both looking around again.
20200315_004.jpg

12:57 pm
Sur finally gets up, and Res immediately moves to the eggs.
20200315_005.jpg

Sur flies off a moment later, and Res settles in.

A little after 2 pm, North had begun to pixelate badly, and Res settled with her wings out - this was the clearest shot I could find easily:
20200315_006.jpg

It's not raining, so I'm thinking maybe she's using that position to lift a bit off the eggs so they don't get too hot.

It's now 2:49 pm, and Res is still on the nest. I'm rebooting the North cam because it's really too pixelated to tell what's happening, and I did confirm that it's Res while I was logged in - her collar looked a bit shaggy - but perhaps she hasn't been to the feather-dresser since yesterday's wind storm. :)

9:00 pm Looking back on the DVR to JudyB's last post finds Res on the nest until 6:12 pm Sur finally arrives to give her a much needed break before the night vigil begins.

:vid: Sur in for his last shift

7:20 pm the final exchange for today

1:00 am Another uneventful evening - Mom has been up and down rolling the eggs in between snoozes. She is currently sleeping peacefully with her head tucked. The wind finally began to subside earlier this evening between 5:00 and 6:00 pm and has not picked up again - all is quiet!

Good afternoon, everyone!

This pair is the master of the quick switch!

Res left at 7:42 and Sur arrived less than a minute later. Lots of spinning circles as I tried to watch the dvr, so no pictures; eggs looked fine.

Res returned to take over at 10:23 am - managed to get a quick s'cap.
20200316_001.jpg

She left around 11:28 am; having trouble with the dvr, but I think Sur arrived within a minute or two, based on the thumbnails; I did get a s'cap of the eggs this time.
20200316_002.jpg

It's now 1:43 pm, and I think this is still Sur - will try to get a better look after I reboot North.

Sounds like a staple gun in the background.
Yes, I know that this is a "new construction" area. Just mentioning it for those that might not know.

Thanks, Bill - I hadn't really thought about it, but that makes a lot of sense.

2:14 pm
Sur was doing some calling.

Res arrived a couple of minutes later and took over incubation.
20200316_005.jpg

North cam is looking pretty good as long as there's not too much movement. It's now 2:28 pm, and this is Res.

Mom returned about an hour and a half later to take over for the rest of the evening. Their exchanges are so quick and clean it is difficult to spot them on the DVR!

I took some pictures earlier today of Sur's right eye and didn't get them posted so will do that now - these are from 8:48 am - and I'll add that Sur's eye is looking better now and I'll have pics of that in the next post.

Here's his other eye for comparison:
20200317_012.jpg

My thought is that there's mucus being produced by the eye, and the nictitating membrane is closed and temporarily stuck in the pictures above.

These are from 10:18 am, and I've seen him blink with that eye so all is working normally now.

20200317_016.jpg
20200317_017.jpg

I've just checked the dvr and it looks as if Sur has been on duty since around 7:30 this morning; it's now 10:30 am.

Added -
I'm going to reboot North - it was pixelating a little, and got much worse when I logged in so I could get a closer look at Sur's eye.

5:38 pm
Another look at Sur's eye.
20200317_020.jpg

And he is on duty, and I'm afraid it's been a long day so I'm not going to look back to see when they've switched out - all is going well, and that's the most important thing!

And if someone else would be willing to fill in the blanks, that would be great - but not essential.

Good night, everyone! :offtobed:

Good morning, everyone!

I'm noticing that Sur's right eye is looking messier again today. While I was zoomed in, he seemed to have it closed a lot (hard to be sure, but from what I could see on the North cam, his left eye was open, so he wasn't dozing) - but he also seemed to have no trouble opening it completely when he wanted to look at something. Here are three pictures, and then I have two 2-minute videos to process. This is as close as I can look with the South cam; the North cam can get much closer - but because it's over the nest, he needs to be at the right angle for me to see much more than his eyebrows (if eagles have eyebrows).

Glad you got that, gemini - I saw it happen but hadn't gone back to look for it yet. Definitely one of the fastest switches I've seen!
