3:20 am. Just checked back to 3:15 pm and no eagle visits seen. I had checked earlier back to JudyB's post and not visits seen then either!

No snow seems to be accumulating yet, in spite of the forecast - it is raining however and very windy and cold!

Added:
Just checked out my window and there is about 1/4 of an inch of snow on my patio - slush coming down at the moment.

Good morning, everyone!

10:04 am
Just noticed someone on the nest - my initial impression is that it's Sur with his feathers blowing in the wind.
20200112_007.jpg

Looking back, he arrived at 10:01, and showed the dark spots on his upper tail when landing, so definitely Sur. He arranged some fluff and moved a stick, and flew off at 10:06 am.

And back at 10:07, I think with more "fluff" to put in the nest.

I also checked the dvr to before dawn, and didn't see any other visits, though it is possible I missed a quick visit.

12:18 pm
I brought up the cam a few minutes ago - and found someone on the nest!
20200112_016.jpg

It had been empty at one point, so this isn't a continuation of the previous visit. Off to check the dvr to get some times.

And the eagle just flew off at 12:19 - and upper tail markings indicated it was Sur.

Added - from the dvr....

The previous visit ended with an eagle that looked like Res flying off at 10:14. :chin:

I'm reminded that I thought Sur left for more nest material and returned less than a minute later, but now I'm thinking Sur left at 10:06:48 and Res arrived at 10:07:35 - watching the arrival again, the eyes and tail look more like Res - so I think that was a sneaky switch! (Well, they weren't being sneaky - I wasn't paying attention - but we don't have to talk about that! :) )

And continuing with the dvr, the eagle I found at 12:18 arrived at 12 noon with a stick, and the tail and eyes looked like Sur. After placing his new stick, he checked out the nest cup.

And then he s&l for the rest of the visit, starting around 12:05 - and I didn't see any additional visits.

Hi Judy and all, I was at the nest earlier and nothing there. I am amazed to see that both Sur and Res are busy making the nest for a new year. They sure are amazing. I see a young one flying out our way and always wonder if it's one of our chicks.

Good to see you here, Beth - and it's nice to think that you might be seeing Dee or Ess occasionally!

It's now 4:03 pm, and I checked the dvr back to my last post and didn't see any other visits.

Dinner time here in Maine - have a good evening, everyone!

12:30 am Checked back to JudyB's last post but didn't see any more visits. It started to snow in earnest around 7:00 pm and let up around 9:30pm. It's just very windy and cold right now. Likely the snow in the nest won't melt any time soon as the temp is forecast to go down for the next few days.

G'morning all :)
FWIW,
Still snowing at my house, about 60 miles southwest of Surrey, with about 4" on the ground. But not as cold as Surrey.

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for your posts and updates!

8:00 am
No change or activity since Bev's post.

8:01 am
I looked up from typing that to see two eagles on the nest!
20200113_003.jpg
20200113_004.jpg

One of them, I think Sur, flew off at 8:06. It looks as if they're bringing in stuff to cover the snow - which might help it melt, when it gets above freezing and the sun comes out.

Res flew off at 8:09 am.

Nice to see them!

Good morning everyone. We have had quite the snowstorm out Mission way with high winds and cold temps. I see the nest has snow in it and also Res and Sur covering it up with straw or grass. they sure are devoted. Not too sure what today will bring but I hope both will be safe.

Good afternoon, everyone - and stay warm, Beth, Bill, gemini and everyone in the area - sounds like a serious cold spell there!

And I will note that we have crazy eagles! :mihihi:

I just came back to my computer on this windy, chilly day - and what do I find? Mom (I think), lying on the snowy nest.
20200113_010.jpg

And then Sur (I think) arrived with a stick.
20200113_011.jpg

Looking back, the first eagle arrived with a stick at 11:54, and the eyes look like Mom Res. She settled in the nest a minute or two later. Dad Sur arrived at 11:57 am. I was trying to get a picture showing how windy it is, but their feathers don't stay blown back very long. Around 12:01 Sur settled in the nest bowl - and this picture gives a sense of what their feathers have been looking like.
20200113_012.jpg

Res flew off at 12:02; Sur remained lying in the nest bowl, then moved a stick, then stood up to move it better. He left at 12:03 pm.

This would make sense if it was close to egg laying time - but they have at least a month to get this done (the first egg last year was March 7, and that's a normal date for eagles in this area).

Happy to see them - and I suppose eagles don't wrap up in blankets and binge-watch movies, so maybe this does make sense for them. :)
