I grew up in NJ. After my stint in the Army I traveled. I was 20 years old with no responsibility. I ended up in Bellingham WA and when I saw Baker peeking over the foothills, snow capped in August, I knew that this area was now home.

I had to come back to the computer to check something, and found them both in the nest at 6:30 pm:
20191023_009.jpg

Looking back, it looks as if they arrived around 6:24 (one was moving nesting material)
20191023_010.jpg

One of them left right after my first s'cap (I think Res) and Sur did a bit more checking on the nest.
20191023_011.jpg

He stayed there a bit, then left at 6:34 pm, after doing a bit of preening and showing the spots on his upper tail.

Good night, all. :offtobed:

Someone just arrived with another big branch!

And someone else landed a moment later to help place it.

One of them left for a while, then returned with a large bundle of "fluff" for the nest.
20191024_003.jpg

And then one left and returned with a stick. (Actually, I think I missed a stick in the middle here - lots of coming and going).
20191024_004.jpg

Hard to get a good picture of both at once - Sur on the left is showing a nice profile here.

And now I'm going to go back for a sequence of pictures with a brief video; when I used the dvr to get the picture of the adult bringing in the big clump of fluff, I didn't mark the exact time, so watched from a ways back and saw part of the process we don't usually see.

At 10:55:54 (3 seconds into the video), the adult flew into the neighboring tree - see red circle in upper left
20191024_006.jpg

OK - I got tired of saying "the eagle" and went back to a point where I could tell them apart, and it was Sur who flew off the nest at 10:54, so it's Res in the nest during this sequence, and Sur flying around.

Continuing.... Sur stayed up there looking around (one of the things he does best) until 10:56:53 am (about 1 minute into the video) when he flew down to the ground (red circle under the left edge of the nest)
20191024_007.jpg

Sur stood there for a minute, then moved around on the ground a bit, then flew off in the general direction of the cam but mostly hidden by a branch. I suspect he picked up grass down there, though I don't actually know that - and I've no clue why he didn't fly directly to the nest (wind direction? making sure he wasn't being followed?? showing off for his lady?) - but I next saw him at about 10:57:45 on the left side of the screen, and he flew across behind and below the nest - the picture below is the end of his flyby, at 10:57:47, two seconds later (he's fast!); it's 1:56 in the video.
20191024_008.jpg

And then he appeared in the pose I caught originally, at 10:58:03, delivering the straw to the nest.

Video in a minute (or three)

They are still coming and going and bringing more sticks, but I do have other things I need to do. Please do have a look at the dvr - it's really fun to see them at work!

Res (with cowlick sticking up) pulling off little stubs from one of the branches.

I just saw a flash of white, so I suspect Sur is in pursuit of more sticks.

Looking back....

11:49 am - I think this is Res checking out the nest; definitely a feather sticking up on top, and it looked more like her tail. She stayed there for a while.
20191024_012.jpg

11:54 am
Another stick.
20191024_010.jpg

Res flew off at 11:55 while Sur wrestled with the stick. Sur then stood around a bit, looking around, then left at 11:58.

It's now 3:50 pm, and I didn't notice any additional visits, though I might have missed a quick in and out.

The nest is looking taller!
20191024_011.jpg

They were there for a bit over an hour this morning, on and off - arriving at 10:48 and leaving at 11:58.

Good morning, everyone! Very windy at the nest - thanks for the weather report, Bev!

9:04 am
I looked back on the dvr, and not surprisingly, did not see any visits. I know eagles are water-resistant, but if I were an eagle, I'd still be hunkered in somewhere today!

Good catch, Marg! I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they're out and about in this weather.

10:36 am
I just came into the office - and found someone on the nest!
20191025_001.jpg
Looks as if he(?) might have been nibbling on scraps from the bird you saw, Marg. Looking back, the adult arrived about 10:33, and left right after I grabbed the s'cap. I'm thinking it may be Sur based on the neckline - but in this wind, that's a really poor indicator.

North is pixelating badly - I'm going to try a reboot, but don't know that it will help.

Update - cam came back after the reboot and streamed for a bit, then went offline. The cam itself was choppy when I logged in, so I think there are issues on site because of the weather. Hopefully all will be well once the storm passes.

Good morning, everyone! Nice to see a calmer day at the nest after all the wind yesterday.

Happily all of our nests with cams came through the storm all right - but we did hear from one of our ground observers that a nest tree about 10 km/6 mi north of Surrey Reserve came down in the storm (see Nico Wynd, Crescent Beach Eagles). Both eagles are OK, though I'm not so sure about the townhouse where the tree landed (the nest is on the edge of the Nico Wynd Golf Course).

8:00 am
I was watching as it was getting light, and just checked the dvr, and haven't seen any visits yet this morning.

10:39 am
Both Surrey Reserve embedded cams just went offline, and I can't connect with the cams using the zoomer links - so I'm guessing there's a power outage in the area. The weather is fine, so it's more likely the utility taking part of the system down while they replace something nearby that was damaged by the storm. I'll check the outage map in a minute.

Added -
There are a lot of outages in the general area, but nothing that should be affecting the cams; not sure how long it takes them to update - will check a little later.

10:45 am
Surrey South is back streaming.

I can log into North, so the embedded version should be back soon - and just came up now.

All is well. :)

North cam looks OK, but the dvr only goes back 26 minutes, so Ken or gemini might have done a reboot.

I also looked back on South, and didn't see any visits.
