2:39-2:42 p.m.: Incoming! Parent brought prey to the nest; I couldn't see what it was. The parent who had been sitting on the nest flew off, and the newly arrived parent began feeding one of the two chicks. The other chick appeared to be sleeping and only roused itself near the end of the feeding. Feeding ended at 2:43 p.m.

At 4 PM is it a late snack or an early appetizer?

Morning everyone!
From the DVR 7:00am There was a feed...
The adult - got up and backflapped away from the nest bole...it's wings were very wet! bonking started right away - think this is SR2 taking the lead...and SR1 put SR2 into submission fairly quickly..

The feed started and one chick - SR1, I think - simply because it's bigger got a good feed and most of the bites..
Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
SR2 eventually worked it's way around into a better position and got maybe three bites - not large bits, though...
SR1 not getting it's beak in quite the right place...
Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
The feed ended at 7:10am and the adult returned to brood the chicks..
Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
From the DVR There was another feed around 8:39am and this time both chicks got some good bites. The adult seems quite hungry and had quite a few good bites too...
Think this is SR1 Then SR2 got itself in a good postion and got bites after that... I didn't see much bonking at all during that feed...

Hi again ...from the DVR
The adult left the nest briefly at 10:48am
There was some bonking and it was the larger chick which put the other into submission as soon as the adult got up.. The adult returned two minutes later and started a feed with the fish tail that was left in the nest...

Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
It was SR1 [the larger chick] who got the bites - the adult ate too...
SR2 remained mostly in submission, but did get up and get in a better position - but behind SR1 and not close enough.
SR2 may have got one bite, but I'm not sure of that..Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
Feed was over and the adult settled to brood the chicks at 10:55am
Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
Hi everyone - and thanks so much for the coverage here! I've got one of those colds that's going around and am not online much right now.
12:59 pm - time for a snack!
It looks as if SR2 has learned to lay low initially, then he/she can get all the bites once SR1 is getting full. Both seem to be doing well.
I'm pretty sure this is Res, though a lot of the identifying features look different when they're wet.
