At 5:00 pm Mom dredged up an old nestover and managed to squeeze out some bites for the chicks for the next 15 minutes. SR1 was somewhat cantankerouse and bopped SR2 a couple of times.

Mom finished up and was standing over the chicks when something caught her attention and she cried out a few times then flew.

Chicks were on their own for a bit, then Sur flew in.

Sur in for his turn at brooding - no food!

Sur is currently brooding with chicks under and beside him. They are not in a good mood with pecking and bopping taking place at the slightest provocation. I hope Res can finds a new food source! The leftovers are wearing thin. :(

Good morning, everyone! What a windy morning - at least it looks as if the sun is out. Thanks for the weather forecast, Bev.

7:10 am
Quick review of the dvr before I reboot North.

It looks as if Res flew off at 6:32 am. I'm not sure, but it looks as if a bird may have been brought in at some point - not sure I've seen that before. Adult back at 5:38 - not sure who.

Jumping to present - adult on nest went on full alert and second adult joined the first. Logging in to North cam.

After a minute or so, Sur left and Res took over brooding the chicks. I think it was Sur who was on the nest before the second adult arrived but hard to tell between the pixelating on the North cam and the wild wind on the South cam.

This is interesting - the screen of other things you can watch that comes up when I reboot a cam shows images of Surrey North!

It seems that usually there might be one image from Surrey North, and maybe one or two from our other cams, then random YouTube videos in the other spots.

North is already pixelating again - I really think there's an issue with the wiring to the cam that makes it harder to keep a clear image when it's windy - and it's very definitely windy today - sometimes you can barely see the nest on the South cam.
20190427_003.jpg

I'm not sure if it's harder to watch like this, or if it would be harder if I pulled the cam back - but knowing that the North cam isn't going to provide too much info unless one of us is logged in directly, I'm thinking the closer look at the nest is better. Thoughts?

Res just slapped at the nest - I'm guessing one of the squirrels is around. I didn't get the slap, and don't want to try the dvr right now - this is right afterwards.

Mom Res is feeding the chicks from what looked like a relatively new addition to the food supply.

SR1 is getting the initial bites, and gave younger SR2 a bop when the other eaglet tried to grab some food.

Fortunately after SR1 had some good bites, he or she mellowed out a bit, and both chicks started to take turns.

I'm logged into the North cam, and even the direct link is very choppy - and Mom Res is having trouble standing up on the nest. I'm glad the chicks are a bit too small to do much flapping in this wind!

7:53 am
Feeding is over and Res is tucking the chicks in.

Hi everyone!

Our chicks have names!

In honor of Dawson & Sawyer, the developers who helped make this nest happen (read the whole story here), SR1 is named Dee (pronounced like the initial D) and SR2 is named Ess (pronounced like the initial S).

Welcome, Dee and Ess - and thank you, Dawson & Sawyer, for working with Hancock Wildlife Foundation and the City of Surrey to save the Surrey Reserve for our eagle family and to sponsor the cams that let us watch these eaglets grow!

Thanks, Bev!

8:52 pm
Res just got up and moved the bird into feeding position. Dee/SR1 was first in line for bites.
20190427_012.jpg

I'm still watching on the zoomer link to the North cam - the wind is really blowing!

Now a bite for Ess/SR2, the younger chick.

And the view from the other cam.

It looks as if Dee is getting more bites - which is common in the first half of the feeding. I think Ess is learning that if he/she waits a bit, Dee is willing to share.
20190427_015.jpg

A brief lull in the wind - the nest is back in the middle of the screen where it belongs!
20190427_016.jpg

9:01 am
Res is trying to get around behind the chicks to tuck them in without being blown over - not easy in this wind, but she's getting there. I think Dee got a bit more food this time, but Ess had a number of bites at the end, and there seems to be quite a bit of meat left on the food item, so it's looking good.

Time for my lunch so I'm logging out of the North cam. I'm not going to reboot it - it won't help in this wind, when the cam itself has choppy images.

Adult on the nest flew off (I think it was still Res), and an adult arrived at 10:20 pm (had to zoom in to confirm it was Sur); he settled on/beside the chicks.

Hmm - I got a strange screen when I tried to add pictures. Clicked Submit and then edited my post, and everything was back to normal - no clue what I did before.

I'm logged in on the North cam while I'm at the computer - if another zoomer would like to use it, please let me know.

11:06 am

Sur called around 10:57 am, then flew off around 11 am. Res arrived around 11:06, and began a feeding. I think younger chick Ess is getting most of the food this time, while older chick Dee dozes.

11:10 am
Older chick Dee has popped up to join the feeding.
20190427_022.jpg
20190427_024.jpg

But I think Ess is still getting more bites, because Dee is mostly lying down and occasionally reach up towards the food, while perky little Ess is front and center.
20190427_025.jpg

It looks as if the feeding is winding down as of 11:15, and Res is getting ready to brood her chicks. And I think brood isn't quite right, because they've been partly outside much of the time, but she's sheltering them and making sure they stay warm.
