10:28 am
Ess started eating again a couple of minutes ago. Dee hasn't had as much practice at sneaking in and grabbing food as Ess - but it looked to me as if she was thinking about giving it a try - and I think Ess thought so as well, as she went back to a mantle when Dee got near.
Dee has now backed off, and Ess is working on her meal (I think another small bird).
10:45 am
I got distracted, but I think Ess got most of this, and Dee did manage to grab a few bites. Meal is over, Ess has moved out to the East perch, and Dee is still checking for leftovers.

Dee left shortly after my last post; Ess went to the high perch, and mostly stayed there and on the little branch beside it until noon, when she also flew off.

Dee flew into the nest around 12:20 and lay down for a while (and did some calling); she then moved to the east perch briefly, then hopped back to the nest and flew off at 12:29 pm.
It's now 1:43 pm, and I haven't noticed any other visits.

One of the fledglings arrived at the nest at 2:32 pm - I think this is Dee - and she has a bit of fluffy down stuck to her beak. Checking the South cam, she appeared to drop straight down from some branch over the center of the nest.
Dee Drops In (20 seconds)
After a couple of minutes, she ended up lying down on the nest. She stayed there until 2:51, when she went to the upper perch.
A moment later, Sur (I think) arrived with a fish.
And left in a hurry when Dee jumped down.

Continuing....
Dee made good progress with her fish and appeared to be ready to swallow the last bit at 3:07 pm
When she apparently saw someone approaching and dropped the last bit to start calling out
The large bird (probably Ess or maybe one of the adults) was on a course to land at the top of the tree, but I'm not sure if they did.
Dee continued to look up and call out for a while, while standing protectively on her bit of remaining fish (doesn't she look fierce?).
At 3:23 pm she returned to eating her fish, and swallowed the tail in a couple of big gulps. She headed up to the high perch at 3:26, then moved to the smaller branch sticking up beside it, and flew off at 3:30 pm.
It's now 3:49 pm, and I haven't seen any additional visits.

I’ve been watching much of the time since my last post and didn’t see any visits, though I heard some calls.
Good night, everyone.

Good very early morning, Bev and nightowl!
4 am
I'm rebooting North - since it's not giving us an option for even pixelated views on the dvr, that seems the best thing to do. Hopefully it will behave for a while and we'll be able to see if anyone visits as it's getting light.

Good morning, everyone! It's been a busy morning, with a couple of adult visits and both fledglings stopping by, though I've only been watching on my little iPad's little screen, so don't know the details yet.
from the dvr....
One of the eaglets landed on the nest at 5:14 am, looked around a bit, then hopped off to the east perch. I haven't had a good look yet, but am thinking this is Dee. She went up to the high perch, then back to the nest.
Here's a shot of her tail.
At 5:21 an adult arrived, I think Res based on the white stripe, with what looked like a piece of flounder. I noticed that Res was carrying the fish in her right foot when she flew in, and while she might have been putting more weight on her left leg, the right one seemed fully functional.
Res Delivers (28 seconds)
Around 5:29 am, the second fledgling arrived - you can see her flying behind the tree, and then she apparently circled behind the south cam tree, and flew across the nest from the left to land on the slanted trunk.
Ess Arrives! (30 seconds)

continuing....
Ess waited patiently for a while, then made a few attempts to grab what was left.
And she eventually succeeded
And I think maybe Dee got it back once, then Ess got it. They are fun to watch - and I love how they are using their wings to fend each other off - this may need a video....
Dance of the Fledglings (70 seconds)
At 5:57 am, Dee went to the little perch, then up to the high perch; Ess joined her a few minutes later. Note that Dee has her back to the cam, and is showing her rounded tail.
Dee flew off at 6:15, and Ess flew off at 6:21.

I'm pretty sure it was Mom Res who arrived with something yucky at 6:36 am. And I haven't figured which eaglet arrived afterwards - but she clearly demonstrated that she has the lung capacity to fly while screeching at the top of her lungs!
6:44 am
It was Dee (on the far side) who was there - I saw Ess's tail feathers when she just landed.
Ess is busy grabbing big chunks of the stuff and gobbling it down. Dee did get most of the first delivery, so it makes sense that Ess is hungrier now.
Dee went up to the upper perch at 6:49 am, while Ess continued to eat. Ess moved off to a perch at 6:54, and Dee had flown off at some point.

I think this is Ess checking out the perches on the left/West side of the nest. She disappeared behind the tree trunk at 7:51.
One of the fledglings arrived at the nest at 8:20 am; cam was pixelating, but I think Ess had been on the perch the whole time, so it's likely her - and I think I've seen her tail feather fringe while she continues to work on the seal placenta or whatever the second delivery was - though it's too fast to get a good picture.
The second fledgling arrived back on the nest at 8:28, flying in from the left/west (South cam view). After a moment Dee checked out the leftovers (Ess had walked away at that point).
Not sure when Dee left; Ess laid down in the nest and was there at 8:41 am; she left at 8:43.
I haven't seen any activity since then. It's now 9:13 am, I've rebooted the North cam (though it didn't clear the dvr), and the nest is empty.
I'm away from the computer for a while - time for lunch here, and afternoon errands to run.

Good morning to all, Judy that was a very cute video of the chicks using their wings, they are really funny now. Who would think an eagle could be funny?
Morning Nightowl and thank you for the weather forecast.
Morning gemini
It's another cool and rainy one here today and that is good for keeping the forest fires down so I'm not at all unhappy.

Better late than never?
I caught this yesterday morning and just hadn't got around to it until recently.
A parent brings breakfast to the nest. Dee aggressively pushes the parent off and takes over the breakfast.

Last night:
I checked back to 6:00 pm (JudyB's last post) when I got home last night and believe it or not at 6:01 an eaglet came flying in! I haven't had time to edit what I recorded yet but will get to it eventually! (well not quite true, I spent an hour working on it and when I played it back, discovered I managed to mess it up - don't know what I did but I did!) so..... eventually!
In the meantime, suffice it to say, the eaglet (I think Dee!) hung around for awhile and then left. There were no further visits but I believe both eaglets were probably in the upper branches of the nest tree all night! (when I get the video finished you'll see why I think that!)
Back to now, 2:30 pm:
At 10:45 am this morning (I checked back to 9:15 am) We had a visit from one of the eaglets. Will deal with the video after I finish the first one - if you can't wait for the video you can check the DVR at 10:45 this am for the visit - nothing that I could see after that!
Meahwhile a teaser - can you find the second eaglet?
Sorry I have to go out for a bit - back later I hope. Bye for now!
