Thanks for the morning report, Bev - we appreciate your posting the weather, especially knowing how busy you are now with Harrison Mills and the Halifax Osprey cam!

Beth, I hope you saw Ess at the nest yesterday - I always worry until they return. I thought it was Dee there the whole time - but once I've made an ID, if I step away for a few minutes and there's still an eaglet there when I return, my instinct is to assume it's the same one - so I might have missed a switch. I do hope we see them both there today - if they visit together, we'll know we're seeing both!

I was in earlier and rebooted North - and am rebooting it again now. Before rebooting, I did a quick look back and found two visits, one last night and one this morning. I think both were by Dee.

This is from 7:20 pm yesterday; I'm seeing a bit of white on the tail, but it doesn't seem to be on the tips, and the tail is being held narrowly and rounded, which I associate with Dee (if you know what I mean).

Here's a brief video - I'm afraid it's just of the fledgling eating and displaying her tail; I don't know who made the delivery.

:vid: Dee? (24 seconds)

This morning's visit started with an adult arriving around 5:41 - and I didn't realize it at the time, but there was a fledgling overhead. She's in the red circle and flapping - but you'll have to take my word for that because even I can't see her and I took the screenshot.

It was interesting to watch - though rather too long to record - the adult ate some of the food item; he or she picked it up and walked around the nest showing it off. He or she even jumped up to the little perch to make it more visible to any nearby fledglings. During all that time, I didn't notice any movement in the upper branches, or hear any calls from either fledgling.

At 5:51, the adult jumped up to the little perch, and flew off.

A minute later, I noticed movement in the upper right corner (not where the fledgling was earlier), and someone made a lovely flight to the nest. You can see her circling behind the nest here, a dark shadow against the sky.

continuing....

North cam was too pixelated to see tail details; I did try to get logged in, but the fledgling was checking out various perches by the time I made it to my computer. This was the clearest shot I got of the tail.

Another view - I think the light color is a stick under the tail, not the tail.

And one more.

This looks like Dee to me - and I'm hoping that today is the day Ess returns to the nest!

There was a fledgling in the nest at 9:06 - it might have been Ess. North was pixelating badly (Ken's now rebooted the Wowza, and it seems better), but I got some images and a little video from the direct zoomer link. Will add them after lunch.

Good morning everyone, Bill, you are so right, it does look lonely in there.

Judy, I sure hope I saw Ess too, you have me second guessing myself now. I also worry until they return. Thank you for the pic's of Dee.

I have to be away for a while this morning so I won't be able to watch for Ess.

Let's hope they both return today.

I'm not sure who is who yet - but there are two!!! :D
20190709_010.jpg

And I still don't know who was here at 9:06, but now I'm almost positive that it's Dee who has been on the nest calling for the last half hour or so, and Ess who just arrived.

Ess on top eating leftovers, Dee lying down.

I have some close-ups of Dee's tail, and there's white there, but it was looking to me more as if she had dirt or maybe salt from wading on the beach than white feathers.

At least one has been calling fairly regularly for food.

Ess is now lying down beside Dee, and they did a bit of beaking, and seemed to be playing with a little stick.

Ess is on the left, and her tail is looking longer at the moment, but it's the angle - I'm pretty sure Dee's is still a bit longer.

Looking back, since I started posting in the middle.

One fledgling (I think Dee) arrived at 11:29:06; I'll check on the North cam later, but it looked as if she landed on the nest, then did a bit of looking around.

The second fledgling arrived at 11:31:51 and landed on the perch to the left of the nest (from the South cam perspective):
20190709_018.jpg

And I think they both more or less stayed like that, with Dee eventually lying down on the nest, until around 11:52 when I went to my computer (I'd been watching the North cam on my iPad) to try for some closeups on the tail feathers of the chick in the nest - and realized there was a second chick perched beside the nest.

Ess moved into the nest a moment later.

(end of flashback)

Dee has gone up to the high perch; Ess is lying in the nest. I think Dee is calling for food. Or maybe I have them backwards - the one on the upper perch sure looks like Ess. :chin:
20190709_019.jpg
20190709_020.jpg

I have both zoomer cams open - am hoping to following one of them if/when they fly off. Cams are working much better - I think Ken's reboot of the Wowza server really helped - and maybe we need to ask him to do that more often when the cam is pixelated.

At least one of them is calling for food - maybe both. Hard to tell with the multiple windows open.

And my current guess is that this is Dee's dusty tail, not Ess's white lacy tips, and the rounded position is more a Dee thing - so Ess is on her high perch. But it's not easy to be sure.

Oops - I blinked, and Ess is gone.

Here she is, heading towards the lower right corner of the cam window.
20190709_022.jpg

Dee looked when she flew by, but didn't get up.

1:10 pm
Time for me to take a break. Dee is still on the nest, and I took a quick look around and didn't see Ess anywhere. I'm logging out of both cams.

I thought Dee flew off as I was leaving the room, but someone is on the East perch. Looks like Dee’s rounded tail but the picture on my iPad is pretty small.
