Still from the dvr, Ess shows off the new little feathers at the edge of her wings.

I'm hearing crows, and I've seen a few fly by the nest - I have a feeling that raiding a crow's nest was not the smartest thing Sur ever did.

8:42 am
Ken did a reboot of the server, and when it came back up, Sur was feeding the chicks.

I hadn't been watching, and neither cam goes back before the reboot, so I don't know what's on the menu. Feeding continued for at least 10 minutes, then Sur left.

9:30 am
Chicks are sleeping on the nest, and I'm out for a while.

10:30 am Kids alone from 9:30 until 10:12 am Sur arrived in the nest with two small chicks - one in his talons and the other in his beak. Both alive! Where does he manage to find these nests! Kids don't seem interested but not going to watch anyway!

Continuing from the thumbnails - no feeding going on and the kids are busy preening so going to chance a look - Ess preening himself decides to help Dee. Dee not too receptive! :grlol;

So here's what's been happening:

Sur sat with Dee and Ess until Res arrived at 11:22 am with a much more desirable prey, a fish (take note Sur!) and he flew off.

Mom's fish (by her right talon) and Sur preparing to leave!

No one was interested in eating until Mom moved the fish to the pantry and started to eat it herself. Then the chicks made their move. They ate until the entire fish was consumed – both got many pieces as they behaved quite respectably sharing equally. Once the feed was over they toddled off to their respective sleeping spots and Mom left.

She came back with a small stick at 11:43 am, placed it and moved over to the pantry to find the chicks (who have hopefully succumbed by now!) brought in by Sur earlier this morning and another feed began. It didn’t last long (and I didn’t watch, so don’t know who got what!)

Kids resting once again, Mom does some cleaning and wrangles with something furry caught up on a stick. She gives up and leaves at 11:54.

:vid: Mom fights with a stick

She came back again less than two minutes later with lots of grass which she spread around and then settled down to sit with her chicks until 12:43 pm when she left once more. This time no one returned and the kids are on their own – sound asleep at 1:05 pm!

Kids asleep, Mom spreading grass

I may or may not be back with scaps! Depends on the mood my mouse is in! (I still haven't replaced it and it is still sticking!

Added: Mouse was in a reasonably good mood for a change!

Thanks for your reports, gemini - and I also have no idea where Sur does his shopping.

This was a couple of minutes ago - love the synchronized preening!

3:02 pm
Sur arrived with either one large or two smaller birds - definitely bigger than the ones earlier today since most of what I could see in his feet was a lump or lumps with black feathers.

Both chicks seem interested and are getting bites.

Great catch, DDuckies - I have a hard time catching shots like that!

Dee is showing off her really large crop - and was also picking at something on the edge of the nest; not sure if it's food, but both chicks seem to be checking things out, though they aren't getting more than an occasional bite on their own, as far as I can tell.
20190516_020.jpg

Ess has also turned away from the feed - not sure if s/he overbalanced and tipped, or is intentionally lying down! :mihihi:
20190516_021.jpg

Sur is continuing to work on the food, and now Dee is taking bites again.

3:27 pm
Dee is taking a break and now Ess is having more bites, though I have not a clue where s/he is putting them - I couldn't get a good s'cap of Ess's crop - but it's huge.

5:13 pm
Sur is calling, the chicks are dozing.
20190516_026.jpg

He flies off, they show their big wings.

Why do I think this should be made into a song?

Lovely image, Sue!

10:50 pm
I was up to check on another cam so peeked in - everything looked peaceful for the last 2 hours, and the chicks and probably Res were all asleep.

As usual, the pre-click screen had a better picture:

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for the weather and early report, Bev!

6:37 am
Sur arrived with something large, which turned out to be a rabbit.
20190517_001.jpg

Ess was first in line
20190517_002.jpg

Though Dee joined in quickly.

6:53 am
Both lined up.
20190517_005.jpg

Right after this, Sur looked off at something and then moved away to the side of the nest and called - maybe thinking someone was coming too close. The chicks took a break, and as of 7:03 am, Sur is on the edge of the nest preening while the chicks watch.
20190517_006.jpg

7:23 am
Sur is not happy about something - started calling, then flew up to the little perch to call some more.
20190517_007.jpg

I'm enjoying being able to see who is on the little perch, now that the chicks are bigger and we don't need to be zoomed in as close.
