Re: Surrey Reserve 2021-2022 Observation and Discussion
Good Morning everyone and thank you gemini for the video. I’m surprised Res stayed in the nest so long with the new male; usually she hightails it out when he approaches. He did seem to want to help. For better days to come, whatever they may be. I would love to see Sur come home but the size of this male is very intimidating and much larger than Sur. I would fear for the outcome.

Around the 0721 and 0722 mark, I heard vocalizing not coming from Res. Then another Eagle flew right in front of Res. I don't know what's up but I cannot stay, sorry!

I just saw a second adult fly by the one on the perch near the buildings; the one on the perch called out but did not leave.
I'll try to get a s'cap off the dvr in a minute or two.
Added - glad you saw it too, CC.
Added -
The adult was moving too fast for me to see his tail feathers even frame by frame; I say he because I think it's Res who is on the perch, and only an adult of the other gender could come that close without a resident eagle taking off in hot pursuit.
Added - reading back, thanks for confirming it's Res on the perch, CC - I thought I saw her cowlick.

I am going in on the cams briefly.
Added = the adult flew off before I got logged in, going off to the right. I was logging in on North at the time and looked around briefly but didn't see anyone.
I'm now going to check South and move it to a wider view of the nest area, since we haven't seen the eagles using that perch often during the day.
7:43 am
I didn't see any eagles, and am now out of the cams. I also have lots to do today but will check in when I can.

11:15 am Checked the DVR's back to JudyB's last post but there have been no visits by any eagles to the nest or distance perch. The rain and wind continue!
Re: Surrey Reserve 2021-2022 Observation and Discussion
Hi all! Just checked in while I was eating lunch and see that Res came to the Nest with her own food at 1151.
All I can say is that the food appeared fresh, as the raindrops are impeding visibility. The storms are putting a beating on us right now, so it's nice to see Res hanging out to enjoy her food.
I don't have time to review all the footage right now, but can later today if no one else has time to get to it (;
ADDED: It is a bird as she's plucking feathers

Thanks, CC - hard to get a s'cap, but I think I see Res's cowlick so likely her.
It looks as if she flew off around 3:50 pm.
As of 5:45 pm, I didn't see any other visits on the North cam dvr.

Checking South dvr, here is Res at 3:41 pm
And Res, with cowlick, on the perch by the townhomes at 3:51 (she arrived a minute or so earlier, but I was looking for a s'cap that showed the feather that sometimes sticks up on the top of her head).
Thanks for zooming, CC - and it looks as if she left shortly after this s'cap at 3:57 pm.
As of 5:55 pm, the night perch is dark and windy and empty.

I finally slowed down enough to watch the video - thanks for recording this, gemini!gemini wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 9:03 pm8:55 pm Res visits the nest at 4:42 pm followed by the intruder. It's not a congenial visit ......
Res visits the nest, intruder follows her and muscles her out of the nest bowl.
And I watched it twice.
The first time, I noticed that this young (maybe) upstart was being a bit of a bully.
And since I've been trying to be objective and keep my admiration for Sur out of my observations about the new male, I watched it again, trying to think about how I'd respond if this was Sur and Res, or the pair at Harrison Mills, or any of the other bonded pairs I watch - and how many times have we seen a male start piling sticks on his beloved mate because he wants to incubate the eggs for a while? I find that funny and charming - and I think it's possible that New Male's desire to push Res out of the way so he could make the perfect nest cup for her might be funny and charming as well, once we've gotten past the sense of loss that we may not get to see Sur with his little chicks this year.
It's hard - we need time to grieve because we loved Sur and we may not see him again, but the new male is doing what he was destined to do - find a mate and raise little eagles. And I'd like us to find a way to honor that.
Gemini is right that the visit was not congenial - but I can't think of a single pair that I've watched who haven't had some serious "discussions" about where a certain stick belongs, with a certain amount of posturing and occasionally (hopefully gentle) pecks.
Thanks for reading - and have a good evening.
It's 7:32 pm, and I haven't seen or heard anyone on either cam since I checked back earlier.

Good morning SR friends. Like Irisheyes, I do not see our Eagles yet this morning. The Fraser Valley got another hit of bad weather yesterday and we just received yet another weather warning:
ALERTS IN EFFECT
Rainfall Warning
Issued at 04:15 Wednesday 01 December 2021
A prolonged period of heavy rain continues today.
Total rainfall: 100 to 120 mm.
Locations: Fraser Valley - Central and East including Chilliwack and Hope.
Mud and rockslides are happening everywhere, extreme flooding, and my own City of Chilliwack is going to get pummeled today, so many of my community members are suffering major damages and even total losses of their homes. I won't be around much until later this afternoon while I travel back home on busy backroads, from an overnight work trip. I just hope I don't lose power once I'm home. I'll check in when I can if I notice an Eagle, I'll comment with a scap and time of arrival like I did yesterday.
ADDED: The wind is crazy right now!
Stay safe SR friends, Res, New Male, and Sur wherever you are.
