Good morning, everyone! nightowl
17-26-16C = 63-79-61F
7:51 am
The South cam is frozen at 6:28 am; I've sent a message to Ken.
I also checked both dvr's back 12 hours and didn't see any activity.
A question for those in the area
Are you still seeing the adults around?
It seems that in past years they've taken a little break after the eaglets leave, then returned to work on the nest a bit before leaving for the 4-8 weeks that will provide us with a window to clean the cams - but this is only our third year watching them, and the weather was more challenging this year, so they may have left. I think the last reported visit to the nest was July 22, and the last sighting of an eagle in the area was July 29, on the far left perch tree.
A question for everyone who has been watching
I know there are spots on the cam covers that we'd like to have cleaned this year - and it may be possible to do some checking of the wiring in the tree to make sure no one has been nibbling on it (which might cause or contribute to the occasional static/pixelating/etc) - are there any other things our climbing team might be able to do to improve our viewing or keep the eagles safer?
Thanks!

19-22-15C = 66-72-59F
Note: The White Rock Lake fire is not in or near White Rock where our eagle cam is located; it's in the central part of the province, in the same general area as Kamloops and Kelowna.
7:56 am
I just checked the dvr for both cams, and did not see any visits to the nest or the perch.
I did notice that we really need to get the cams cleaned this summer - the smudges are sort of pretty at dawn, but will not help us find where the eagles are perching!
I hope to post more information about our matching drive to raise the money needed to clean the cams later today - but you don't need to wait for that to donate.
Thanks!

2021 Cam Maintenance
Matching Drive
Matching Drive
First - a big Thank You to all who have donated to our Matching Drive! We have received $2410 in donations so far - and as you remember, the first $1000 was going to be matched, bringing the total to $3410 - so we are a little over 1/3 of the way to our goal of $10,000 for the people and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance for as many of our cams as possible.
A key component of our annual cam maintenance drive is our Nest Adoption Program - your donation of $250.00 allows you to adopt your favorite HWF nest and family for the entire nesting season. Your name will be listed on our HWF Live Cams page for the nest - or you may choose to adopt a nest in memory of a loved one, or to adopt a nest anonymously - just let us know what you'd like to do.
Romeo from our White Rock Nest is here to speak on behalf of all the eagles we are watching - please click the button to adopt your favorite nest or nests!
And if this isn't a good time for adopting a nest, you can also make a donation of any amount to the "Eagle Cams/General Repairs" fund or you can make a monthly donation by changing the highlighted box at the top of the page from "Donate Now" to "Donate Monthly." Many of the funds have a suggested amount - but that is just a suggestion. The amount you put in the Amount box is what you'll donate.
Clicking the button with Hope and Chase from Delta 2 just after they hatched will take you to our Donations page where you can make a donation to help us see next year's tiny eaglets this clearly.
And I have exciting news - a generous supporter has offered to match the next $500 in donations - so if you donate $100, HWF will get $200!
You don't need to be in Canada to use CanadaHelps - and the rate of exchange right now is favorable to those of us in the United States - a donation of $250 Canadian dollars is currently about $200 US dollars, so if you give $250 through CanadaHelps (or PayPal), HWF gets $250 Canadian dollars, and the cost to you is based on the current rate of exchange.
Big thanks to our first wave of early adopters -

and to those who are diligently zooming and documenting the close of the current nesting season - and to everyone who watched and posted on all of our nest observation threads and the other 200+ forum topics.
The remaining eagles will be leaving soon - and will be back soon - and we'd love to have sparkling clean cams to greet them on as many of our nests as possible. Thank you.

I just did a semi-quick check of the dvr, and didn't see anyone in the nest or on the nearby perches.
Last year Sur and Res were around for a while after the eaglets had left the area - but looking back to 2019, the last time we saw them was a couple of days after fledglings Dee and Ess were last seen.
I don't remember the nest or even the species (I think maybe a young osprey) but I do remember a moving account of a ground observer watching a fledgling fly around as he or she had been doing for a while, and then something clicked, and to quote the song, he "got the urge for going" - and the observer watched him gracefully spiral up on the thermals until he became a little dot - and disappeared, off to wherever his instinct said he needed to be.
I know I tend to anthropomorphize the eagles if I'm not careful, thinking of them as if they were having the feelings or responses I or another person might have - but I also know they have some really amazing instincts. And that makes me wonder if the reason they stayed so long last year was because they hadn't actually seen Loki leave, and were waiting in case she came back to the nest.
Anyway - last sighting of a fledgling was 8:01 am on July 19; the adults both visited the nest on July 22, and spent quite a bit of time perched together near the nest afterwards. One adult was seen on the far perch in the upper left on the South cam on July 23, and again on July 29, leaving as it was beginning to get dark on both days. We may see them again in the nest week or so - but we also may not. Last year their final visit of the season was August 14.
Have a good evening, everyone, and stay safe.

I'm seeing and hearing lots of little birds exploring the nest and the nest tree - which makes me think that the "big birds" are not around. I'm having issues with my photo editing program so can't put red circles around the birds - but there is one in each of these photos.
I did a quick check of the dvr for both cams, and did not see any eagles or other activity.
Added - replaced the first two little bird photos with ones with red circles.
