8:24 am Brought up the cam just in time to catch our eagles at home working on their nest! One of them brought in a stick - it was a huge one - it's at the front of the nest. Sadly I didn't get the cam up in time to catch it.

Then the other eagle went to get one - caught it coming home! You can just see a piece of it in h/h mouth!

Bringing in a second stick!

I did get a shot of the first stick - after it arrived - it's the wishbone shaped stick running from the front of the nest to the middle - eagle has it in h/h mouth as h/s tries to move it!

7:17pm........The visuals of this nest are very nice. This pair seems to really like the nest and have shown great interest in making it their own. Loved seeing the scooch down in the nest Sharon, in your video.............a bowl so deep we lost view of the eagle's head! :D

9:50am...........Good morning all! I've been watching on this lovely morning and notice that the smaller birds also like this tree! I think this is a woodpecker who paid a visit just now.....he was checking out several areas of the tree.

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for adding the weather, Bev! Looks a bit chilly today, but still above freezing!

7:57 am
When I first looked at the nest this morning, it looked as if there was snow on the ground!
20181108_001.jpg

But now I've looked a bit more, I think it's just a trick of the light - here's a wider view.
20181108_004.jpg

I've added a new preset to the North cam - Trees_By_Water - which is the area where we thought we saw an eagle perched when we were looking around with the South cam.
20181108_005.jpg

There are more possible perch trees with views of the water between this preset and the one named SemiahmooBay (which may or may not be looking towards the bay - but it's some body of water); you pan left from SemiahmooBay to get to Trees By Water - and I think there are more trees if you continue to the left. But most places there are a lot of nearby branches obstructing the view, though we'll be able to see more later this fall when more of the leaves are off the trees.

I'll be working on other projects, but will keep the cams up, and hope for a visit.

Thank You!
We are off to a great start on our Fall fundraising drive and thanks to many of you, we have raised over $3000 towards expenses for the Harrison Mills cams, for an improved internet service for all our cams, and for our general forum expenses.

We have 10 new nest adoptions:
Delta 2:
Alice and Richard Currie (Lantz_56)

Harrison Mills:
Irish Eyes
Kyle and Neil Hardy
gemini
Irish Eyes in Honor of Chips
Yolande Proctor

Surrey Reserve:
Irish Eyes
JudyB
gemini

White Rock:
Sandy_W
And a number of other donations towards our general expenses. :thumlft:

I should mention that all donations go where they are needed the most, so when I adopted Surrey Reserve, I knew the money I donated would probably not be used for the Surrey Reserve cams - which are sponsored by Dawson & Sawyer, the developers who worked with David Hancock and the City of Surrey to make sure their housing project included a home for the eagles as well as the homes for people they were building. However, by adopting the Surrey Reserve nest, I'm letting David Hancock know that I'm excited about this opportunity to meet a new pair of eagles, and see how they adapt to the nest that was built just for them. And I'm happy to report that they seem to be moving in - we've seen them bringing in nesting material and some branches! Here's a great picture by gemini of one of them moving a large wishbone-shaped stick they brought in a minute earlier, while the other one looks on to make sure it's placed just right:
Image

And I'm realizing that while this is a fundraising drive, perhaps I should also be calling it an Activity Drive. We do need financial support to keep this wonderful organization and website and forum and cameras going - but we also need more people to watch the cameras and post observations. If you look at the threads for our primary nests (Delta 2, Harrison Mills, Surrey Reserve and White Rock), you'll see that most of the posts on each thread are by the same 3 or 4 people. And they would love some help!

You don't need to know which eagle is which - just post the time (the nests are on Pacific time, so that's what we use for posting) and what you saw - "An adult eagle landed on the nest" or "some bird I can't identify was perched next to the nest for a few minutes" or "a very brave squirrel was sitting in the nest." Most of the time, the Topic Assistants, Zoomers and other frequent posters can use the DVR function on the cam to look back to the time of your event and add more details and a screenshot - but it's so much easier if they know where to look. And they will be happy to share the clues they look for to know which adult is which - or their knowledge of other birds seen in the area. You don't need to watch constantly, or commit to watching at a certain time - just whenever you happen to be watching, post what you see. Or didn't see - a post like "I was watching the North cam from 10:30 to 11:00 and did not see any activity on the nest" is actually very helpful as we learn when the eagles are most likely to visit at this time of year.

People who watch a lot and post a lot are great - as are large donations. But we also need people who can post their observations occasionally or who can give $25 or $50, or join our monthly donor program at $10 or S20/month. There's a song I learned years ago with the line "Many stones can form an arch, singly none, singly none." Our new Surrey Reserve cams aren't that far from the Peace Arch - and I'm visualizing how all of our observations and donations can build a mighty arch of information about eagles and encourage people to make decisions to support the eagles and other wildlife that share the planet with us. Please help.

You can click here to go to our donations page - and remember that the amounts listed under various projects like Eagle Cam Repairs and Monthly Support are suggestions - you pick the amount you give. Thank you.

If you have questions, please contact me ([email protected]) or gemini ([email protected]).

I've been watching much of the time since my earlier post, and haven't seen any activity at the nest. There are a lot of construction sounds - hammering and sawing - though I doubt if that would bother the eagles. But they may prefer to stop by later when it's a bit more quiet.

I'm out for at least a couple of hours.

Good morning, everyone! Thanks for starting our day, nightowl!

Looks like a nice day, though a bit on the chilly side.
20181110_004.jpg

I love the colors here in the early morning - though it would be nicer with eagles.
20181110_001.jpg

We did have a visit by a squirrel, who stayed until the cam switched to color, making him or her easier to see.
20181110_003.jpg

I'm going to be away from the computer for a little while - did check back a bit (thumbnails still not working), and didn't see a visit by the eagles.

Hello all! I just thought I'd check out the new cams at Surrey and decided to look at the rollback and saw that both of the eagles were on the nest working on some sticks at 9:25 am this morning (they were there well before this, but this is the time I started to grab a few s'caps).

Looks like the female was testing out the nest bowl.....after she bulldozed the male out of the way, lol.
