Yes Karen, sadly Whiskeytown Lake was devastated by the fire and is now closed for the remainder of the summer. We have not been able to see the devastation firsthand, but the photos I've seen are heartbreaking :brknhrt: It will recover & be beautiful again someday I'm sure... There are still many other beautiful places to see down here, so I hope you will visit us sometime!

Once they re-open Highway 299 West we will be able to at least go out that way to see how bad it truly is. The tears will be flowing I can guarantee that!

Turtle Bay is in the middle of Redding, which the fire did not reach thankfully! It got fairly close & crossed the Sacramento River at one point! But, it did not make it far enough east to reach the original nesting area! It also didn't reach Riverview, which is a few miles south along the river from Turtle Bay. So, our eagles won't notice anything different for the most part! Phew! They are the lucky ones! The 4 pairs at Whiskeytown Lake will have some work to do when they return in October!

Hi everyone! We are still dealing with some very smoky conditions and coming to terms with the devastation of the Carr Fire here in Redding.

Please keep all of the wild animals who have been displaced, injured or killed in this devastating wildfire in your thoughts...

Greetings Everyone!!!

It looks like BOTH of our Redding Eagles have been spotted in the Redding area!!! We are so grateful for their safe return, especially after the summer we had in Redding :(

Liberty was spotted flying over the Sacramento River a few times this past week & Ospreyman Jim was quick enough to get a photo of her flying by...

But, it wasn't until yesterday Sunday 10/7/19 that I received a report that both Liberty & Spirit were perched in a tree across the river from the Riverview Golf Course!!!! :eag: :eag:

This morning, Roger at Riverview spotted one of our eagles in the old Red-tailed Hawk's nest in a pine tree right next to where their old nest had fallen to the ground last season! The other eagle was also perched in the Pine Tree near the hawk's old nest! They have attempted to make that nest work a few times in the past with no luck, so we'll see what they end up doing this Nesting Season!

Never a dull moment here with our Redding Eagles! :mihihi:

Wonderful to see Liberty and Spirit back - thanks, Terri!

I've started the thread for the season that's just beginning - viewtopic.php?p=107634#p107634 - and have opened it, though I have a bit more work to do on the opening posts.

I've also updated the timeline at the beginning of this thread - please let me know if I missed any important events or if I got a date wrong - thanks!

I'm now locking this thread - please join us here!
