12/13/2020 - continued....less than a minute later one adult flew off the nest and I kind of lost them but thinking I saw them flying down and to the left...maybe going to the pond that is over to the left a bit....I need a better spotter as it is hard to actually see the eagles through my camera.....need a longer lens to be able to do that.....will work on my spotter so he can tell me exactly where the eagles are flying, lol.

12/13/2020 - continued....and the last pictures....can see the adult on the nest as they appear to be rolling an egg or two....I wonder what they have there so far and how long they have been there?
Old Golf Course Nest - 12-13-2020h.jpg
And the last picture we can see.....or not see.....as the adult has laid down to incubate the egg(s) and we can no longer see them there on the nest.

So, we wait and see when we may be able to see a little bobble head....could be 5 weeks or less....if they are tall enough to pop up so we can see them.

We went to the nest on Monday, 12/21 - we did not have the activity we had the last time. No one was cooperating this day. We assume that there was an eagle on the nest laying low and incubating their egg(s) but couldn’t see them as the nest is pretty deep, and they did not get up to roll the eggs while we were there. And the mate was not around the area. It’s all about timing and this day at the time we went was just not right so we hope that next week when we go we hit it at the right time.

Good Morning! We did not visit the nest on our normal Sunday, which would have been 12/27 due to the holiday and visitors in town, but we did visit the nest this past Sunday......here are some photos of the activity we saw....

1/3/2021 - when we got to the nest, no one was there but seconds later one of the eagles flew in to the tower.....and the other one must have been on the nest as I saw something out of the corner of my eye flying over toward the right.....I wasn't ready to capture some clear shots at this point and somehow my camera was on a different setting than I had left it from a previous nest visit but here is what I did catch.....

This is the eagle flying up to the tower
Golf Course 1-3-2021b.jpg
And the next thing I got was once both eagles on the tower, the lower one is either vocalizing or coughing up a pellet
Golf Course 1-3-2021c.jpg
Then, before I could straighten out my settings on the camera, the adult that was higher up on the tower flew off and landed on the nest platform

1/3/2021 continued:
We stayed for another 10 minutes or so....the adult on the nest seemed to be rearranging things on the nest....more than likely rolling whatever eggs they have there, but they did not seem to lie down to incubate the eggs when we were ready to leave....maybe giving them some air as it was a nice day.

1/10/2021 Nest Visit - We went to the nest yesterday....took our dog this time and actually went out to the old cart path on the course....so thankful we did as one of the adults was perched in a tree right near the path and we may not have seen them from our other view point out on the road. The other adult was on the nest and I thought maybe they were sitting off the eggs/babies.....since we don't have a date for when the eggs were laid it is difficult to say if any of hatched yet. Here are some pictures from that visit.

Here is a shot showing where both adults were....will be hard to see the one on the nest platform unless you enlarge it

A couple close ups of the adult in the tree.....was such a sight to see....I don't know if I've ever been this close to an eagle before so this was so exciting to see

1/10/2021 nest visit cont'd......some close ups of the adult on the nest....can see in this first pic that they are alone....with the exception of some eggs or maybe some babies, that we unfortunately cannot see......was so hoping to see a couple of bobble heads when I got home and enlarged the pics but I didn't find even one.....maybe next week.

But then a little later on lots of little birdies joined the eagle on the tower

1/10/2021 nest visit cont'd.....and then the adult on the tree flew off and came right overtop of us.....what a sight! My spotter thought he saw them just over one of the nearby trees but then lost them so not sure where they went to....was waiting for them to come back and maybe relieve their mate on the nest but they did not come back.

Good Morning! We visited the nest yesterday and were able to see both adults. Seems like a theme this week....adults were all off the nests and giving their chicks or eggs some air as the temps were in the mid 60's and it was cloudy, so not too much sun. Guessing this is good weather for the eagles....I'd rather have the sun and about 10 more degrees but it's been a little cooler this winter than it has in the last 5 years, here in SWFL. In any case here are some pictures from our visit.

1/17/2021 visit:

My first thought as we walked up was to check and see if anyone was in the tree like they were last week....and they were, but they seemed to have moved over to another tree....took me a while to figure it out once I looked at last week's pics, but there are a few trees to the right of the tower and last week the adult was in the left tree, this week they moved over to the right one tree. Their perch had a few additional branches in the way but we still were able to get some shots and as I reviewed the pics I noticed some red flowers on this tree....so pretty with the eagle perched there. Not sure these flowers are actually part of the tree or if there happens to be a Bougainvillea that has climbed up the tree from the ground.

Their mate was up on the tower.....no one on the nest below....and I went through all of my pictures and did not find anyone popping up there. Note that my zoom lens is not big enough for me to actually see the eagles on the tower close up or to see if an eaglet is on the nest....we also use a good set of binoculars that allow us to do that so between the binoculars and going back to the pictures, that is the only way for us to see any eaglets there....until they have grown a bit.

Here's a close up of the eagle on the tower...preening

1/17/2021 visit cont'd

And the adult on the tree is also preening
Golf Course 1-17-2021e.jpg
And then the adult on the tree caught me off guard and flew off....
Golf Course 1-17-2021g.jpg
Then the one on the tower flew as well.....kind of odd that both would fly off....was expecting one to go to the nest but neither one did....they flew behind some trees to the left of the tower and disappeared.

And there they go...last pic before they disappeared
Golf Course 1-17-2021j.jpg
After waiting about 5 minutes or so we walked up the path a bit to see if we could see them in another tree, but didn't. Thought maybe they went to the nearby pond in search of food so we worked out way back to where we started....my husband ready to go, saying they would be back later.....and as I walked as slow as I could, one of them did come back....they circled around and went behind that one tree again and I lost them for a minute or so....my spotter wasn't helping much at this point, lol

1/17/2021 visit cont'd

Eventually I looked up at the tower and noticed one of the adults was perched there
Golf Course 1-17-2021l.jpg
And thought I saw something on the nest, and yes, there was their mate....taking over nest duties

After capturing the last pictures we were getting ready to leave when another couple that we saw earlier with a dog, came back around to our side. They had been on the other side of those trees where I lost the eagles. And they did see the eagles had perched on another tree on that side but then once they got closer to the eagles, the eagles flew off. This couple lives nearby so they get to see the eagles here every day...in fact there are two chairs setup along the path which they told me they put there so they can enjoy the eagles anytime.....must be nice! Anyway, they said they have not seen any eaglets pop up yet and really base their eaglet viewing timeline on the SWFL Harriett nest...but unfortunately Harriett & M15 are a little behind schedule this year due to E15's late departure.

Hoping to see an eaglet or two soon as it was the beginning of February last year when we first saw one here and they were big enough to be doing wingers so it should be any day now.

1/24/2021 - I wanted to post a couple pictures from our visit last Sunday (1/24).....not much was happening on this day....was a nice day....but only saw one adult on the nest......they seemed to be sitting up off the eggs/chicks....no sighting of any chicks though.....may need some time to see them, if they have hatched...which I assume they have.

1/30/2021 nest visit - Had a quick visit to the nest this past Saturday....later in the day than normal because we were hoping to maybe catch a feeding.....still no feeding seen but found one adult on the nest moving some sticks around and then up popped and eaglet....so nice to see as this is the first sighting we have had of any eaglets here this season....although the nest seems like nothing...compared to seeing some of those very large nests in trees.....this nest seems very small but somehow, an eaglet can hatch and grow for many weeks without being seen....and I guess the timing just has to be perfect to be there when they are not napping. In any case, this one eaglet looked like he was trying to move a stick too...helping out its parent
