gretchen_AEF (Admin): THANKFUL THURSDAY Tuck-In: Yes, thankful we are! Juliet has had an obvious encounter with another eagle (off cam) that likely entered their nesting territory. She has some bloody marks near her beak on both sides. She has been observed closely today and appears fine, but needs some healing.

Dec 13, 9:31 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): Whereas Romeo took a direct hit (on cam) this afternoon by a mature eagle that perched nest-side, and later flew directly into the nest while Romeo was on eggs. This eagle appeared female as it was quite large. Romeo was a hero and was left without a visible mark, and the eggs appear fine (did I say thankful?) . Viewing this from the ground and hearing the viscious vocals and wings flapping was a frieght. But Romeo is fine, and the intruder appeared to be escorted away. SED to R&J and all.

LisaS_AEF (Moderator): SED's to those still awake with us from Thursday and Good Morning to those just joining us. It has been a very quite evening. Romeo is on the nest incubating. Juliet is on Wallenda branch. She has gotten a good nights sleep and has been doing some serious preening.

I'm not sure why I don't see it mentioned here but Juliet appears to have some injuries to her face areas and stains on her head feathers. Scap courtesy of Sue Lyons.

Here is a closer one of her face from Sue Lyons :(

Hi Mary ... I did mention that earlier

'viewtopic.php?p=130159#p130159

and again here

viewtopic.php?p=130160#p130160

I read your posts and you mentioned blood by the beak but not injuries. That looks like a pretty deep cut behind the nare in the scap. It also appears that there might be an injury to her lower mandible (in my orange circle) and there is a lesser injury in the same place behind the nare on the other side of her head according to Sue Lyons.
