Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
Kay: Finally a photo of the Golf Course eaglet. Lots of solo eaglets in the nests this year.
Did you see my photos of the adults?
Morning is a better time for birding that is for sure.

A few photos of the eaglet in the Sylvan Lane nest yesterday. We did not see or hear either of the adults in the area.

We have an unintentional fledge at the York Place nest. Eaglet looks healthy and it also looks like an easy route back to the nest. So talons crossed for a successful return.

First we saw only one eaglet up in the nest
Then we realised the second eaglet was perched below the nest
Here is the position of the eaglet in the nest and the one below

Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
Marie was there at noon yesterday and 1 eaglet was down under the nest. She went back at 6pm and the eaglet was still hidden down below the nest. She couldn't see it but heard it calling. Four days ago while she was there on a windy morning she saw the same eaglet gain some 'big air' but only once. She has not seen the eaglets branching yet so I hope the one below the nest finds its way back to the nest. I remember this happened a few years ago. Marie will probably visit again this morning and will let me know where the eaglet is.

Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
I just got home from an appt. and Marie emailed me just after 11 to tell me the eaglet was still down below the nest. She could hear it but still couldn't see it.
PS: I just saw your photos; the eaglet looks fine so hopefully it will make it back to the nest soon

Kay: Yes the eaglet looks well so I think it must have been a recent fall from the nest. It also looks like it has a fairly easy route back up to the nest. It is not that far below. You may send my picture of the positioning to Marie. The photo was taken from the entrance to the newly subdivided lot.

Thanks, I'm sure Marie will appreciate seeing your photo. I haven't heard from her today so I don't know if she went to the nest again.

Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
Marie checked the eaglet at approx. 7:30pm last night and it was almost back up to the nest. When she checked this morning it had made it a bit further but still wasn't back in the nest. She was there again at 5pm today and both eaglets were in the nest One was eating and the other one flew in from another location screaming for food. She doesn't know if it was the one that was out of the nest the past couple of days but they both are fine now

That is good news about the York Place eaglet. Hunger wins out Thanks to Marie for confirming the eaglet made it back to the nest.

I have heard from Nora/Island Rambles both York Place eaglets have fledged. I will check this week.

elle see my post above re Marie's observations on June 20th. She said one eaglet flew in from another location screaming for food. So at least one eaglet had fledged at that time. I will email her tonight to ask if she has seen both eaglets flying.
