I looked at 9am and interesting one adult perched at the top of the tree and one on the branch with the eaglet on the edge of the nest maybe they expect it to fledge.......

Checked the nest this past week and the eaglet is there less and less and I have only seen one adult there recently with the eaglet. They will all go on their trip soon.

Hi Beth and welcome to our Stalashen nest!
Once the eaglets have fledged and instinct takes over all our eagles fly north to feed on salmon. I'm sure some have already left and all are pretty much gone by mid August. They start returning to their territories and nests around the end of September. Some think the newly fledged fly north with a parent, and they can also go on their own through following some eagles flying or through simple instinct.
The adults help the young learn to scavenge for food. Often the newly fledged will return to their nest territory as well in the fall. Not to worry!

I've been enjoying following this thread, thank you Marg for all the updates and pictures and Sandra for yours too. Has the eaglet actually fledged yet or still branching in the nest tree ?
Re: Stalashen Bald Eagle Nest, Sechelt, Sunshine Coast BC 2018-2019 Season
Karen, it has fledged but is still hanging around.
Having the telescope I have the advantage of looking several times a day still not as good as the Hancock cams though.

Thanks Heather & Karen.
I see the Stalashen eaglet is still in the area, I saw it yesterday on the old perch tree and later on a branch in the nest tree. This morning it was perched on a branch in the nest tree but at 10:23am I looked and it's not there... gone fishing maybe.

I was at Port Stalashen this morning and suspect that the young eagle perched in the same tree that I see the adults perch in there was the Stalashen fledgling He/she called off and on for the half hour I was in the area before flying off in the direction of the nest / nest tree.

Lovely shots Karen! This is the nest where I have found youngsters lingering on after parents have left the area through the years. Nice that you had a visit with him.
