On July 7, 2 adults were visible, one near the nest and one in the nest

2 juveniles flew in while the adult at the top of the tree just preened. So I'm guessing that these juveniles were recognized?

The younger juvenile landed quite near me and I saw that s/he had a leg band. I've sharpened and cropped as much as I can and I still couldn't see the full number but I think that the first 3 numbers might be 109. Probably not enough to identify the eagle :(

Great updates on this nest Heather, it is so far away from the parking area that I'm amazed you manage to get any pictures at all. Great capture re the band on the juvenile! I've tried hard to get any numbers off Pa Chaster's band but it is quite faded and not as clear as this one, it might be worth messaging OWL and asking if the 109 helps ID the bird ?

I'm glad you saw eagle activity here Heather, especially in and near the nest! David H needs all the numbers to get a history on a banded bird, sadly. It is quite a feat to accomplish as Karen and I well know from Chaster! These juvies could be recognized by the adult eagle, or not. I don't see that calling would occur by adults at this end of the nesting season if not warranted to protect youngsters, nest, food. They are quite tolerant of all juvies when not actively nesting.

Thanks Karen and Sandra!

Sandra, its a shame I wasn't able to see more numbers on the band but it makes sense that David and/or OWL would need the whole number. Plus there seems to be some text above and below the number but both are impossible to work out :(

Karen, most of the pics I have of this nest are from the other end of the trail, near the lightning tree. I included some directions in the first post on this thread but let me know if you have trouble spotting it, I'm happy to show you sometime . It is very low down in the tree so easy to miss. :)

Thanks for the updates on this nest Heather, I do believe they need all the numbers on a banded eagle but I may be wrong. :bye 1:

I visited Sargeant Bay today and saw one adult sitting and preening on the tree next to the nest tree. We were there for a couple of hours and saw only 1 eagle. There might actually have been two eagles as the lone eagle was in a different tree at the start and end of our visit but it may just have been 1 eagle moving around. :D

I visited here on Tues, March 5. Did not see any eagles, but once again, I should have looked at nest tree location posted here in comparison with the house. :( I had a good search through the stand of trees, no eagles identified.

Sorry Sandra that you didn't see any eagle activity or the nest on your visit. The nest is a bit tricky to find. You have to stand in just the right spot to get a glimpse. Let me know if you want to meet up for me to show it to you!

I have been visiting through the winter but I have been very bad at posting observations :( My last visit for 2018 was in October and I didn't visit again until Jan 17 when both Ma and Pa were in residence and very active. The nest looked as though they had added to it since my last visit

Again on Jan 17, one of the adults flew to the large tree right by the pathway so I was able to see him/her from directly underneath, probably my closest view of either of this pair :-)

My next visit on Feb 18 was exciting as Ma and Pa were extremely interested by some of the residents of the Bay getting ready to go out in a boat. Perhaps they sometimes receive some trimmings from fish or crabs and were getting ready to scoop up there share!

When I first arrived both Ma and Pa were waiting on their favourite perch tree but as soon as the people appeared on the beach, one of the adults shot over the water to check out the activity

The adult did a quick swoop ver the beach and then landed in a tree above the beach, closely followed by the second adult. Then I think it was a waiting game! When I left both adults were still waiting for their share :-)

On Mar 16, it was much quieter. Ma and Pa were again on their favourite tree but didn't move the whole time I was there. Though there was a very nice low flyby from a sub-adult !
