Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019
I'm glad you've seen the activity you've shared Heather. At least we know the couple here is present and active.

Thank you for the pics Heather looking good.

I visited twice in April. On April 4 no adults were visible and no obvious activity in the nest though it was a pretty grey day so hard to see details.
On April 20, 1 adult was sitting near the nest but again a pretty grey day.

On May 20, another rainy day.
No obvious activity in the nest but one adult sitting near the nest being dive bombed by an angry crow

On June 2, someone had tossed what looked like a halibut carcass onto the beach and there was a lot of eagle interest as you might imagine!
1 adult was right by the lower parking lot when I arrived and was soon joined by another adult that came from the direction of the known nest. One of them flew down to pick up the fish and took it over to a log to feed the other stayed in the tree. Then very shortly 2 other adults and 1 juvenile arrived to see if they could get a share.
It was interesting that no-one flew back to the nest with the fish but it was quite large so maybe they would try to break off som pieces as it would be quite hard to carry the whole thing up to the nest .

Then a juvenile arrived but was very quickly chased away by one of the adults. The juvenile was panting after the effort of the chase.
Then the juvenile tried to take a gosling from a Canada goose family on the other side of the bay. But no luck - Canada geese parents are very fierce!

Lots of action there Heather! Still no proof of life in the nest but activity happening as it should below and in perch trees. Poor hungry juvie!

I visited on June 18 and look what I found! I hadn't left the parking lot. Didn't see any eagles.

Where is the nest in that pic stim?
Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019
Hi Sandra, I'm glad that you saw the nest but is that the one above the B&B or is it another one? It looks a bit different - perhaps its from a different angle but it would be exciting if you had found a second nest

Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019
I thought the nest I found could be in a bit of a different location, to our left of the other nest tree. I could not find a nest where I thought it should be then landed on this one through my lens and snapped. I have never found the other one but was recalling where it was when you showed me. I can't say for sure this is a new nest but thought it a possibility.
Re: Sargeant Bay Bald Eagles, Halfmoon Bay Sunshine Coast, BC 2018 & 2019
Thanks Sandra. I was there today and wasn't able to see any other nests but it was a bit grey and cloudy so I think I need to visit on a bright sunny day to have a proper look.
I was there hoping to see some fledged eaglets but no eagle activity. In fact not much bird activity at all. The summer visitors have already started to leave and the others are laying low and resting after all their nesting activities.

How about we visit together again to see if I can find it again? Then we could check our Coopers Green nest as well if you like. I'm hoping we can have our Fledgefest Lunch soon.

Sounds like a good idea Sandra! I will email you to work out a time
