Blenkinsop Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018 Season

Welcome to the Blenkinsop Eagles thread for the 2018 season. The eagles have been nesting on private property near Blenkinsop Lake for many years but the nest is not easy to view once the nest tree is in full foliage. The eagles have produced many eaglets over the years but unfortunately there are no photos of them available. The eagles can be seen perching in nearby trees and fishing at Blenkinsop Lake. They also perch in the trees along Blenkinsop Road near the Galey's Farm Market.

Observations and photos of these eagles are appreciated on this forum if you have the opportunity to see the eagles.

I visited the nest area today and when we arrived both eagles were in the current nest. One flew out before I could get a photo but I did get one of it soaring over the field. The 2nd eagle was in the nest the entire time and was obviously incubating. I'll be back with some photos.

One of my birding friends had confirmed there was an eaglet in this nest several weeks ago, but I forgot to post it. She was standing on the Blenkinsop Trestle yesterday when the eaglet flew to the bushes nearby and crash landed. One of the adults flew to the area and landed on a small rock. The eaglet flew up and tried to land on the rock beside the adult but there wasn't enough room and the eaglet crash landed in the bushes again. The adult hopped on and off the rock, flapped its wings in the water and had a good bath.
