The first 2 photos are Missy enjoying the sunshine.

You can clearly see the little grey blob in the nest from W. Saanich Rd.

Very sweet Kay. That eaglet is only about a month old. Up and alert though. I wonder if it could be a second clutch.?

I wondered that as well. Could be because Pa & Missy are a new pair and she looks quite young. Still could be a 2nd one pop up ;)

We first saw Missy incubating on Mar 27. Even if she had just laid an egg on that date the eaglet would be older than what we see in the nest now. Approx hatch would have been Apr 27 ; eaglet 7 weeks old the third week of June. Very curious.

I visited some nests on the peninsula yesterday and saw Pa perched in a tree at the south end of the Epicure property looking out over Pat Bay. Missy was perched in the tree next to the nest tree and the eaglet was wandering around the nest flapping its wings  It is still very small but has definitely grown since last time I saw it :thumlft: I'll post some photos soon.

I am so happy Dad and Missy have this little gray blob and it is flapping wings and learning. How lucky you two are to have seen it....life goes on.

Good morning Carolyn. Yes, life does go on and I'm glad Pa found a new mate.

Here are a few photos of Pa and his eaglet.

Wonderful pictures - thanks so much, Kay! And thanks for your thoughts and observations, Lynda and carolyn.

A second clutch does seem likely - and a first-time parent is more likely to have trouble incubating initially.

The solo eaglet at Harrison Mills hatched May 21 from an egg laid April 15, so might have been close in age if he/she had survived - that was a first clutch, but later than usual for a pair that usually nests late.

Thanks JudyB. I would agree that the chick is the result of a 2nd clutch :)

elle yes, the eaglet does look healthy & strong :thumlft: My birding friend jokingly calls the eaglet 'snaggie' :D 'Genesis' is a good name; the offspring of a new pair :thumlft:

I also like the name! Seems a big name for a little eaglet - but he or she will soon grow into it!
