2021 Cam Maintenance Fund Drive
Countdown to Cleaning
Harrison Mills

It's almost time to clean the cams! I've just learned that the work will need to be completed by September 15 - so the next week or so will be very busy!

First - a big Thank You to those who have donated! We've raised over $6000 towards the work we'd like to do at our five nests with cams, and we already have four pre-adoptions for Harrison Mills!

Pre-Adoptions for the 2022 Nesting Season –
September 2021 – August 2022

At least 25 people have already donated to our annual maintenance drive, and I've heard from a few more who are planning to donate soon - which is wonderful! Thank you!

We need another $4000 to reach our goal for this drive - so if you've been thinking of donating, this would be a good time to do that. :)

I'm not going to list everything we want to get done at all five nests with cams - but the list for Harrison Mills includes:
  • cleaning the cams and
  • cleaning the infrared light that provides night vision and also gets dusty
We actually did the first part of the maintenance on September 6 when Ken and an associate went out to try to get the North cam running more smoothly (we've been losing the signal several times a day, so the embedded cam we watch freezes until we can reconnect - which is done remotely, but needs Ken or me to be near a computer) and to get the South cam back online. The mission was only partly successful - Ken replaced some of the components on the North cam, and hopefully it will run more smoothly now - but unfortunately he couldn't restart the South cam so unless it miraculously comes back online by itself, we'll just have the one cam this year. But it will be a clean cam with nice new connectors!

We are a mostly volunteer organization - and I know many of you donate many hours watching the eagles, posting screenshots and videos and detailed observations, and helping with the other tasks that keep us going. We could not begin to do this without you - and on behalf of Hancock Wildlife Foundation, I thank you all for all that you do!

That said, we may need to hire climbers to clean the cams - and we have monthly expenses for the forum and website that host all this information and the internet service that lets us view the cams - so if you can make a donation now, it would be greatly appreciated.

Dad and Lady say it better than I can - please click on their button below to donate.

Ken is doing updates on his computers - cams should be back in about 20 minutes (a little after 4 pm).

Oops, I forgot that I'm streaming the Harrison Mills cam - so it's still streaming. Please disregard this message. :oops2:
