Good morning, everyone, and thanks for posting the weather, Bev - looks like a wet, wild day here and for our more coastal nests.
Today is day 38 for the first egg, day 35 for the second egg; this is within the time frame when we'd normally expect the eggs to hatch, but we don't really expect that to happen this year - Dimple has done a fantastic job incubating what we think are the first eggs she's ever laid, but it's next to impossible for one adult to keep them within the necessary temperature range for 35-40 days. I'm trying to focus on the long view - this will almost certainly not be a happy year here, but Duffer and Dimple are both young and I fully expect that they will produce eggs next year and not be disrupted by another eagle trying to take over the nest - and odds are good that next year we'll see them raise the little chicks we'd hoped to see this year. (I need an emoji with a smile for the future and a tear for now.) Thank you all for staying with us through this tough year.
7:54 am
I checked the dvr, and Dimple has been incubating since Bev's post.
8:00 am
I'm hearing other birds nearby, but they don't seem to be bothering Dimple. I took a quick look around and didn't see them - they're probably perched above the cam and microphone.

10:24 am
Checking the dvr....
Dimple got up and flew off at 8:42 am for a brief stretch; she was gone about a minute, arriving and settling back on the eggs at 8:44 am.
At 8:58 am she took another break, a little longer this time; she returned at 9:05 am. It's hard to be sure, but it seemed to me as if she chose times when it wasn't raining, though there wasn't much she could do about the wind (though the nest bowl is deep, so the eggs are protected).
Her next break came at 10:13 am; I didn't see any water on her, so I think it hadn't been raining over the past hour. She returned to the nest at 10:17 am.
I'm finding it interesting that she has never brought food to the nest while she's been incubating. Thinking about that, it makes sense. On one hand, if she brought food back, she could eat a bit, incubate for a while, then finish her meal - but on the other hand, having food sitting on the nest (even with a large fierce eagle sitting beside it) could attract predators that could harm the eggs or chicks; by not having food there, there's no obvious attraction for birds like crows or ravens.
It's now 10:38 am and still sounds very windy; Dimple is incubating the eggs and looking around.
I'll check back in a while.
